Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by Guest on Nov 1, 2012 15:40:10 GMT 1, Just a note to everyone.
Parcelforce have put their import fees up from £8 to £13.50
I have no idea what warrants paying money on your behalf to the amount of £13.50, but it must be on a silver tray or something, but there you go.
So when buying from abroad - factor that in.
Just saying.

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by Guest on Nov 1, 2012 15:58:53 GMT 1, they dont refund the clearance fee as its a service not a tax.
I have claimed VAT back before (was overacharged by £120 - silly) and ive got no problem with that on this invoice.

So you pay more if someone sends express? That is ridiculous, just because they need to process it faster. Lazy fools.

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by uncle on Nov 1, 2012 16:22:11 GMT 1, I checked it out and found that as long as you pay the customs charge they cannot withhold your package. I called them and told them this, paid the customs charge and asked that they invoice me. They weren't happy and made me come to the depot to collect the package, I did so to make a point. I binned the invoice when it came through and never heard anything else about it.
This was about 2 years ago. So the process may have changed now. Worth a googlewhack...

I used to do the same but apparently the law has changed in their favor? or so they say. Maybe they just spun me a line? Can anyone clarify?

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by Guest on Nov 1, 2012 16:34:36 GMT 1, Would love to see proof of how they calculate it costs £13.50 to process something. I can understand a bit for processing, but thats almost half of the vat.
They would just say they have invoiced me as above, but its like a Russian Roulette of charges. Why not make it £20 for good measure, they could just be making it up.

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by Guest on Nov 1, 2012 17:05:39 GMT 1, im not even sure if the vat is right - maybe someone can tell me.
I wont put the original cost of the item on here, but based on the amount above... how much should the item ?. I thought it was 5% for original canvas artworks?
and how come Norway is similar to the U.S.A for import fees? the rest of Europe seems ok when stuff is delivered.

Yes thats correct.
Although they usually whack 20% VAT on it and you will have to claim back the difference using a BOR286 form. Then they will sit on the form for a couple of months and eventually refund you...

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by sohohoho on Nov 1, 2012 17:20:48 GMT 1, It depends if the sender filled out the description of contents correctly which usually isn't the case unless you specifically ask them to e.g.
"WORK OF ART. TARIFF HEADING 9701."
Your bill is either 5% of £475 inc. shipping or 20% of £120 inc. shipping (approx).

Hmmm, not far off. Might just leave it. I don't mind paying taxes if it means the country gets better... i do have an issue with made up parcelforce charges though.

When I spoke to them some time ago regarding their fees and the fact the item cost less than the fee they did refund my money, but I've since heard they only will do this a couple of times and only in exceptional circumstances.

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by brian on Nov 1, 2012 17:56:09 GMT 1, Shi**ing myself now as I didn't factor in the VAT being charged at 20% and having to claim it back. I've just bought a canvas from Norway which will cost me £160.00 if they charge 20%!! I'll have to go begging to the missus again!

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by Guest on Nov 1, 2012 18:43:44 GMT 1, i had to claim back a poster i bought from the states recently.
The poster was £330 off ebay but the guy who sent it looked like he had written the details in potato so they assumed it was liable for a full import fee, full vat fee and then whatever else they wanted.
The bill was £140 from customs alone. Then i phoned them (parcelforce) they said i would need to claim after. I just said stop bulls**tting me and give me a phone number of customs. They said this did not exist so i hung up and called them back to get a different pleb on the end of the phone.
They gave me a number this time, but im not sure they were supposed to. When i called it i had a rather surprised woman from customs on the other end telling me this was a private number, but she will deal with it anyway.
Sent her the ebay listing and she immediately shaved £60 off for it being a limited edition artwork. They sent this to parcelforce and i paid £70, then once this arrived i took off all the labels and sent with proof using the official claim forms on the government site. I stated it was liable for only 5% import tax in very bold letters on the form as it was artwork.
A few weeks later i had a refund of £51 from customs and excise . So they basically had overcharged me £120 ish. All because the form was not filled out properly. Thing is it was in a print tube, it was pretty obvious it was a print or poster.
morons.

If in any doubt they charge full rate. I am currently trying to get one claim finalised before submitting the next one. I am ok with paying what is due, but it needs to be the right rate on the correct value and that seems to be too much of a challenge for them to muster

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by lha on Nov 1, 2012 23:27:56 GMT 1, I noticed the same thing freerange. Had something arrive from Norway yesterday and had to pay VAT and the same clearance fee at £13.50. Strange thing is i have had other stuff from Norway and it hasnt even been processed by customs. I checked with Martin Whatson (package was from him) and he said its pretty random with stuff coming into the UK that he has sent.
Seems pretty inconsistent with what gets stopped by customs and what doesnt

Did you sort the customs payment freerange? I paid mine over the phone the day the charge came through and it was delivered the next day.
Would be interested to see what you got! I bought a chinook hearts AP original (Martin Whatson) 40 x 50 with the hearts in gold. Looks stunning! Will stick some pics the AP thread later

Parcelforce Clearance Fees Risen, by brian on Nov 6, 2012 15:08:57 GMT 1, I've just been informed via parcelforce tracking that my canvas is being held at Parcelforce's Aberdeen depot until I pay the clearance fee and VAT charge. I don't know what the amount is yet but hopefully they've managed to get it right.
Did you guys receive notification of the amount due through the post??
