Black Rat Press • Black Rat Projects, by Strange Al on Jun 22, 2007 21:14:25 GMT 1, rob Sorry that the prints are perhaps a littlemore than you would like them to be. Just thought I should try and defend our position a little - these are v difficult to make with 4 - 5 times as many colours as your average screenprint. When you print you usually pay for time, paper, and how many colours you use. If you think a 4 colour screenprint is fair at say - £100 then these would be fair at far more than we are charging. It's not really the Banksy effect in this case - they just cost a small fortune to make because they used so many screens and are so detailed. I think whilst it may be a lot of money to spend on a print - it is fair. We would certainly be better off financially doing 4 colour prints at £100 - £150 but we'd also be bored s**tless.
Mike - glad you posted that. Saved me a bit of typing.

It was a little more than I could spend at the moment but I shoved it on the old credit card (and will forget about it for the meantime), and Im sure it will be worth every penny when I see it in the flesh

Black Rat Press • Black Rat Projects, by rob123rob on Jun 22, 2007 21:19:31 GMT 1, Sorry if I sounded like I was being rude, I don't mean to be. I get that there is a lot more work involved in this print; that's one of the reasons I want it so badly, because it is top-notch. Bought my Homeless in Paris (a lot fewer colors, I know) and can't wait, as it is my first purcahse from BRP and everyone on here says that BRP has the best quality prints. I was just hoping to wake up this morning to a 150 pound print from Kennard, so I could buy it right away. I will still hopefully get one, but just have shift some moneys around. Like I said in my first message, great image, great print, no harm intended.

i think when it comes to BRP, the production is def part of the appeal. It always get mentioned and i love the fact that a 4 colour print would bore you s h i t l e s s!
keep on pushing the boundaries Mike and raising the bar.

Any chance the 'margret thatcher as queen victoria' image would ever be made available as a print

try calling you local screen printer (bare in mind they're probably not doing much for artists, more band posters etc...) and get a quote for a run of 75 20 colour screen prints that size on that paper.

Although they all cater for the same kind of customer, each do it their own way.

Yeah, Logan's doing a screenprint and D's working on an actual etching ! should work really well for some of his wheatepate designs. Perfect medium. Good to see a gallery/agent directing some creative work rather than simply churning out cheap and easy prints and giclee's

To be honest, I think most do. Entry level and affordable, they've never said anything other. The more expensive ones on POW tend to be far more complex and worked. But I guess the more you buy and collect, the more conscious you become of the "craft" that goes into producing a work.
We'll all end up a bunch of fat art snobs if we're not careful though
Anyone wanna come up and see my etchings ?

absolutely! POW has permeated urban pop culture which in turn has made their artists a commodity as opposed to the actual art being the commodity.

A bit like Beckham's gonna do for your soccer but yeah, you're spot on. It's a fine line to tread between two opposing theories. The "Cult" and religiousity of art as promoted by the church and modernist academics, versus post modernism and art for the people.. I don't imagine they'll ever be aligned as they seem to satisfy a basic human need.
At the end of the day, building a bridge into the world of contemporary art for us normal folk and creating the access and debates it does, can only be a good thing. Sounds a bit poncy, but having an interest in art certainly improves your standard of living. If not your wallet.

Maybe I'm quite picky in my tastes and don't buy things with the intention to just stick in a portfolio. For example, I could have bought some of those Faile when they came on sale - but proactively passed on them. An Nu, we are already art snobs

Black Rat Press • Black Rat Projects, by pastiepie on Feb 15, 2007 2:11:53 GMT 1, I can only see this as a good thing. POW seem to have turned into a mass-market PR machine. With all the commoners eyes keenly glued to the POW website allowing the rest to quietly slip in and raid blackratpress. I'm just slightly concerned with the prices, I don't know if they get their printing done externally or they just work with higher profit margins but 300quid for a screenprint is pretty expensive and this will definitely decrease their sales volume. I mean POW can basically shift anything these days by a combination of hype / affordability / volume.

It is stunning in the flesh and at 73 x 53cms it's imposing too (in all the right ways)
