Neate red portrait... found one, by Zippy on Oct 13, 2007 18:43:19 GMT 1, very good question as I am also looking for SP's.
What you must consider is that although I do not think they are worth 6k, they so rarely become available, that the sellers set the market price.
If only 1 is out there and its at 6k and you are prepared to pay that. Then fair enough and its worth 6k.
If you dont proceed, please PM the seller and give him my details!!

Yeah agree too Thats the print that everyone seems to want and Neate prints are on the up again after the non art related slump that caused prices to drop. Put it this way I reckon most of the 50 are owned on this forum so if you havent had any sneaky pms offering 5999 or lower buy it. As long as its for your wall dude, cause then it only really matters what 6k means to you, if your investing then id still buy it but you shouldnt really be asking people just trusting your own instincts in my opinion.

Neate red portrait... found one, by lesbianwednesdays on Oct 13, 2007 22:57:15 GMT 1, no offence to type and others but this red and even the white portrait just smack to me of collectorism. i mean they are the lowest editions, supposedly the most sought after yet they are butt ugly, the pair of them.
i do wonder if there are some people who perpetuate the so called desirability of some prints purely because of their exclusivity. or maybe i'm wrong?

But they're not... they're seriously beautiful pieces of art, the red one especially

How very rude Sir ;-)
My kids agree with you, they think they are very ugly and scary, but When I saw the originals and prints of the portraits at Elms I was bowled over by them, all Imposing and very cool, love them big time and wanted them before I left the gallery, but some other nasty inconsiderate people had bought them first
All my friends and family prefer the look of the micallef and Banksy stuff I have on the walls, no one likes my Neates except me, they just dont understand......... ;D

I'm with you Mike, I feel the red is the strongest. Red seems to be Neates colour. But I do feel that if you have the pair you shouldn't split. Like the 2 micallef heads, if you have matching numbers it'll be immoral to split!

Neate red portrait... found one, by gilsteph on Oct 14, 2007 1:02:51 GMT 1, Im curious.
Does anyone on this forum think its strange to pay ยฃ6k for a print?
I ask this given that Micallef prints seemed to have dropped in the latest auction. A few weeks ago no one would have questioned paying ยฃ7k+ for 21st Century.
What do you think?
A deeper question (possibly!) is does it matter? Do we pay for what we want?

Neate's a different kettle of fish at the moment. Neate has claimed that there will be no more Neate prints. Whilst Micallef has expressed pleasure that he has just flooded the market. Chalk and cheese.
And to answer your second question (does it matter) thats not something anyone else can answer but yourself. One mans concern is another mans irreverence I guess.

Neate red portrait... found one, by gilsteph on Oct 14, 2007 1:31:02 GMT 1, So where do you stand?
One artist floods the market, another makes in scarce.
Ultinmately its simple economcs. Supply and demand.
I just wonder if demand isnt a very fickle beast and may change significantly.
My very basic emotion, is why pay so much money for a copy??? My personal opinion is there are a lot of artists I could buy original work from for the same amount of money.
But then agian Im drunk from Scotland AND England having such a great sporting day ;D ;D ;D ;D

Neate red portrait... found one, by pezlow on Oct 14, 2007 7:42:25 GMT 1, The original Red and White portraits were absolutely stunning. At the show I remember standing in front of them absolutely spellbound.
As with all the 3d Adam Neate a lot is lost in the translation to print.
That being said they are still great pieces of art. However I wouldn't pay ยฃ6k for them, a lot because I know that by doing so I will be giving some flipper over ยฃ4k just for queueing for a few hours.
I also agree in a way with gilsteph that there are other artists who you could be originals of for that sort of money. Check out for example Graham Dean who has a very similar style to neate.

Neate red portrait... found one, by worlddomination on Oct 14, 2007 9:27:40 GMT 1, The self portraits are definately the ones to collect and are definately the best two images, that's why they very rarely come up for sale, and as one red portrait has just been sold on it's own that means that there are at best only 49 matching pairs around and I guess that figure is nearer 35 as quite a few people only bought 1 on the night, so a pair with matching numbers is quite a rare beast.

Pez I totally understand your point but I look at it another way. If I love the image and I know I'll enjoy it on the wall for a long time, then maybe it is still worth it. Everyone has a different tolerance for what they can spend and how much they can risk. At 6k you need to REALLY love the image and hope you didn't buy before a big dip in the market. That's the chance you take. Everyone who buys art on the secondary market takes that chance. I think back to when people were flipping CWS and other early POW prints back in 2004 and 2005. Think about the people who bought from those flippers because they loved the image. In the end they had the last laugh.
