10A & a Ton of Doodles
I’m sure most of you know about the book and box set I released last month, it’s all I rabbited on about for god knows how long. One of the most fun yet daunting tasks was the hand finishing of each and every book. Every one of the 110 copies are totally unique in that they have a unique stencil sprayed into the front and a unique doodle towards the back.

I had a couple of days to get all the drawings done which terrified me but I managed to get it done, mainly with the help of very late nights and a bucket of wine. I didn’t want to rush them too much and mess the books up, they’d all been sold and paid for so there was a fair bit of pressure there.

I’ve never claimed to be any good at drawing and it’s something I constantly struggle with in many ways, so doing 110 unique drawings in 2 days was an interesting personal challenge.

When I pick up my Isograph pen, I automatically want to draw scratchy little characters with fine details and laborious hatching inspired by people like Edward Gorey, Robert Crumb and Tom Gauld. When I use my Kuretake No.40 brush pen, I tend to loosen up and work a little faster. I used both pens whilst scribbling in the books and you can see the difference in style between the 2.

So over the next week or so I’ll be updating the blog daily with photos of a lot of the drawings. If you were kind enough to buy one of the box sets, maybe you’ll see your personal scribble here.
