Plus tons of satellite fairs during that time as well, which are just as good if not better than AB itself. It has become more and more about the celebrity sightings/PR than about art. Still a great place to check out some great art and people watch!

Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by sin on Sept 30, 2014 14:35:38 GMT 1, I'm local.
start trying to get your VIP credentials now. These get your free access to the fair and in certain circumstances access to the preview. Certain previews suck, art Miamis preview is a schmoozefest and has nothing to do with art. Scope's Tuesday nights opening however was a great chance to get in and make plays on work. The Tuesday morning brunch at Pulse is always a wonderful time (so i'm told, I always send my wife as I have to work usually)
This year Pulse moved to the beach for the first time. They are up by the Fountain Bleu in Indian Beach Park. I've spoke to the fair director a few times this year, it promises to be great. This is reasonably close to NADA.
Fair wise Basel - if you've never been, go once, it's pretty impressive based on the size alone and you will bump into some massive pieces that you like. Lots of art that that doesn't do it for me, but the experience and the random massive urban art / low brow piece is awesome. True VIP credentials are hard to come by here, but you can get vernissage and single day passes pretty easy.
Scope or Pulse - much more of our type of art. Always good fairs. If you see something you like and feel like gambling, come back Sunday and make an offer, good chance to grab a deal. I've got no position with the gallery but I heard Thinkspace is coming back to Scope with their series of 12x12 to go with some solos. The 12 x 12 was a treat and the work was reasonably priced. JLG had been at Pulse in years pass but no verification so far this year.
Art Miami / Context - f**k them. Sorry, they piss me off. These guys show stolen Banksy pieces to drive traffic and there is little if any urban art shown. I think last year was Library Street Collective and that was it. I think the show is horribly curated, a big shit show of whoever has the money. Somehow even though it's not the main fair it comes off more snooty and pretentious.
Aqua - love this fair. Even though it was recently purchased by art Miamis parent company. Great setting (hotel takeover) party atmosphere but it compliments the art experience. Awesome collection of galleries. I never miss it. Great for emerging galleries.
Miami art project - Newer fair, 3 years old this hear. Moved to a much bigger space. Good curation of galleries. Good variation of work. Joshua Liner was here last year, the space is less compact that a lot of fairs which make the experience less of a shit show.
Untitiled - I do not collect conceptual art or abstract work but I LOVED this show last year and found what I think was my favorite piece of the week last year here. On the beach (like Scope), easy to get VIP, their programming last year was awesome. Interactive experiences of people dressed in imaginative costumes being pulled around by other people in imaginative costumes making live electro. This fair is full of people you imagine the art world is full of, in a good way, lots of crazy outfits, lots of interesting hair styles. I dont know what it is, but I like it.
Wynwood - as someone said the walls are a must see of you have never been. The entire district is covered in murals and here will be fresh ones going up. So if you are in town the few days prior to basel, this is the place to go. In general Wynwood is like your retail / restaurant / lifestyle area for basel. Lots of pop ups all over the place. Good indie shows. Some snooty shit last year but nothing you couldnt avoid. Panther Coffee is the shit, there is also a great micro beer bar called Kush.
Independents -
Herakut is doing a show in wynwood this year. It's at mana which is on 23rd and 2nd. The space is massive. Will be interesting to see how they use the space.
Shameless self promotion. We have an event on 36th and north Miami. (right by Miami art project and the rest of the midtown fairs) It's a benefit event to help the effort to restore and reopen Miami marine stadium. Lineup is: Stinkfish / Axel Void / HoxxoH / Tatiana Suarez / Abstrk / Pixel Pancho / Logan Hicks / Joe Iurato / Ian Kuali'i / Doze Green / Risk / Elbow Toe / Luis Berros / Evoca1 / Rone / Dabs Myla / Ron English / Tristan Eaton / The London Police / Reinier Gamboa / Johnny Robles / Jose Mertz / Crash

On a side note, will also be making it out there again this year. Preparing to be overwhelmed yet again with art.

Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by turnsintoashes on Sept 30, 2014 19:58:11 GMT 1, I went to my first Basel last year and it was a great experience, even though I was totally burnt out and overwhelmed by the end of the week. I'll probably be there Tues-Fri this year. I didn't do any of the partying that seems to be part of the experience though.
You should visit the main fair once and early in the week...I went on Saturday last year and it was extremely busy to the point of annoyance. You'll see a lot of museum type pieces. I witnessed two people almost knock over the same Calder sculpture in a span of a couple minutes, it was that crowded. The gallerists were panicking.
Art Miami/Context were great I thought, along with Scope and Pulse. Scope/Pulse will be more your speed if you're into the art talked about on this board. I heard there were great things at Untitled and Design Miami, but didn't get a chance to go there. NADA is worth going to also. (it's free) I've heard about a super cool week long thing happening in Wynwood this year with a killer group show, so keep your eye out for that. Lots of great artists involved.

Usually traffic is so bad that you really need to stay on one side of the bridge if you dont want to spend an hour+ sitting in traffic
Art Miami, Context, Red Dot, Spectrum, Miami Art Project are all walking distance to each other
Scope Untitiled are walking distance to each other.
Aqua and Art Basel are walking distance to each other
if you are drunk all 4 of those are walking distance to each other (but I dont recomend it)

Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by dreadnatty on Oct 18, 2014 15:26:15 GMT 1, Hi all. A friend of mine, Robert William de los Rios, who is behind the website Wynwood Map(http://www.wynwoodmap.com) - [an ongoing archival project that seeks to centralize and catalogue street art murals and installations in Miami's Wynwood art district and its surrounding areas] sent me this asking if I could reach out to forum members for their help to raise $$$$ for a middle school program in the Wynwood section of Miami(Art District):
โI went to Jose De Diego Middle School, in Wynwood, about 6 months back, to try + get their walls for Basel. They're massive walls, + there are tons of them at the school, so I figured it'd be worth a shot asking for them, since I have a lot of artists coming down for Basel, looking for fresh canvas to paint on. What transpired in that original meeting, changed everything I was planning on doing this year, + possibly for the next few years.
The principal gave me a tour of the school, introducing me to some students, teachers, staff, + the school in general. Saw some classrooms, what textbooks they used, etc. art classroom, with everything needed, to start. A music room with 20 brand new keyboards, + a grand piano. Was off that these keyboards had an inch of dust on them. Then, I was hit with a bombshell.....5 years ago, due to funds being cut, they lost their Art + Music teachers, so they haven't been able to provide neither Art, not Music class, for any student, in 5 years. They simply don't have the money/funding. So basically, the only middle school in one of the largest art communities on the planet, one of THE Meccas for street art, has no Art/Music program. As somebody who loves this city with all of my being, I found that unacceptable. I can't imagine being a child (ranges 11-15), walking to school, seeing all this amazing artwork, then having no outlet, or option, to do the same at school.
That has to change, + myself, along with my partner Patrick, are going to change that, one way or the other. I am organizing for some of the greatest artists I know, to come + paint the school walls. Inside + out. We're searching for sponsors to be able to secure a high profile music act, to throw an event at the school, theSaturday of Basel (December 6th), on top of the artists painting (around 35 total. The list on the PDF only shows a few who we've confirmed. Others who have confirmed who aren't on that list, Martin Whatson, Dot Dot Dot, + quite a few more). Every single penny we receive for this, whether it be by artists themselves selling a print for this project, auctions, art sales, raffles, sponsors, etc., goes directly to the school, so they can pay for full time teachers, to have an Art + Music program. Every single cent.
Who are we, if we don't make our homes/hometowns better, ourselves? Who are we, if we don't take care of our future generations? Who are we, if we don't give them every single option they deserve to have?
What I'm asking you for help with, is whatever you can think of to help us with this project, would be tremendous. Media coverage, friends in influential art mags, galleries, websites, journalism, paint sponsors, art funding programs, even you yourself mentioning it on any media you decide to, would be huge. There's no minimum/maximum anybody can do, + nobody has any obligation to do anything. I just want you, or anybody who believes in something like this, to do whatever you can, to help us reach our goal.....to get these kids that program they so desperately want. I've met these kids. I know them. I've met their parents. They deserve this, + Wynwood being one of the most important places in the world for Art, who better to get involved, than the artists who make up that world wide art community, + the people who call this place home.
D*Face is painting his first ever wall in Miami, at the school, + he's just 1 person. Every artist involved couldn't be happier/prouder, to contribute to this cause. I would love for you to help us out, in any way/shape/form, even if it's just a phone call to a friend, who you think can help us out in any way."

Hi all. A friend of mine, Robert William de los Rios, who is behind the website Wynwood Map(http://www.wynwoodmap.com) - [an ongoing archival project that seeks to centralize and catalogue street art murals and installations in Miami's Wynwood art district and its surrounding areas] sent me this asking if I could reach out to forum members for their help to raise $$$$ for a middle school program in the Wynwood section of Miami(Art District): โI went to Jose De Diego Middle School, in Wynwood, about 6 months back, to try + get their walls for Basel. Then, I was hit with a bombshell..... 5 years ago, due to funds being cut, they lost their Art + Music teachers, so they haven't been able to provide neither Art, not Music class, for any student, in 5 years.
