This is disgusting... What would you if you find out your art partner/agent or you fav auction houses or your gallerist or even your client is involved in this

The article in Guardian below (heard the same on BBC) shows that there is a well-known trail, but I guess govts don't do much to stop it (unlike in US with adoption of recent law stipulating that owning, purchasing or trading looted art from Syrian is a crime).

So on top of being the best market to clean dirty money and for the being of the most unregulated market where collusion and other shady practices is common, these guys are know banking on looted art. THE ART WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL

"Christos Tsirogiannis, a forensic archaeologist working with the SCCJR, says: “Many antiquities dealers that we now know trafficked and traded in illicit objects were based in Geneva, Basel or Zurich … Germany was also picked as a country where, one way or another, the goals and aims of illegal traders were satisfied.” These European destinations, says Tsirogiannis, are where illicit goods were typically laundered – changing hands, passing between dealer and conservator in order to create a paper trail that would then be used to sell objects on to auction houses in London and New York.

Switzerland/Germany: A series of major raids and trials in the 1990s found that items from the near east would often be laundered through mainland Europe. Dealers in Basel or Geneva would falsify a paper trail in concert with conservators before sending them on to their final destinations.

London/New York: Items that have picked up a convincing paper trail can be sold lucratively at auction in the UK or US. But even smaller items that have no such provenance can be found in antique shops, hidden in plain sight among legitimately sourced objects."

I was in Miami over the break, here are my pictures from the Wynwood area. Wynwood Walls was mobbed and has become quite the tourist destination. Not too mnay people on the streets though.


I'd say I probably saw 60% of what was there in 2 hours.  Would have been great if I had a bike.

If you are already in town for the boat show then its absolutely worth a stop.


ALSO, If you go out to the Marine Stadium venue for the Boat Show, you will likely really enjoy the view of the stadium from the boat docks. 


Lastly, there is a show up in Little River called Street Art for Mankind.

Its worth a visit.  Great Hyuro and Icy & Sot pieces there.  Nothing to buy, just stuff to see.
