KAWS Gives a Lecture @ The Modern Shop 02/10., by Sacked... on Oct 1, 2012 19:34:28 GMT 1, KAWS
Tuesday Evenings at the Modern
October 2, 2012 - 7:00pm
Free
Brooklyn-based artist KAWS (born Brian Donnelly) has received critical acclaim for the ease with which he straddles the commercial and fine art worlds. KAWSโs paintings, sculptures, prints, editioned toys, apparel, and other products deftly reference popular culture and the history of modern painting as they reflect the chaotic nature of contemporary life. KAWS has exhibited his work widely, and his piece Where the End Starts, 2011, was chosen for acquisition from the Modernโs Focus Show series last year. This Tuesday Evenings presentation is in conjunction with the Modernโs special showing of his monumental sculpture, COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH), 2010 (on view from September 9, 2012 through January 6, 2013).
This popular series of lectures and presentations by artists, scholars, and critics is free and open to the public. To assure seating, free admission tickets are available at the Modernโs admission desk beginning at 5 pm on the day of the lecture. Seating begins at 6:30 pm and is limited to 250. A live broadcast of the lectures is shown in Cafรฉ Modern for any additional guests. Lectures begin at 7 pm. The Museum galleries and the cafรฉ remain open until 7 pm on Tuesday evenings during the series. Podcasts of these lectures are available here, two weeks after presentation date.
