Replica Ai Weiwei seeds for sale. sp-editions.com, by pookz on Dec 11, 2012 19:51:17 GMT 1, Hello,
Offered these to the forum before with some interest so here there are again for christmas. I've just made a basic website to sell them through with the intention of expanding to sell other affordable sculptures for the home in the future. The ceramic sunflower seeds are handmade in Jingdezhen by the same craftsmen who worked for Ai on his exhibition in the Tate. They were never on display and so are being sold as replicas (although they are exactly the same). Should make a nice stocking filler for someone with an interest in art.
The web address is www.sp-editions.com and if you buy through the online store use the code 'christmas forum' for a 15% discount.
Many thanks

Replica Ai Weiwei seeds for sale. sp-editions.com, by johnnyh on Dec 12, 2012 20:45:05 GMT 1, Ai Wei Wei has his own place there and hey do not do these copies for the market.
However you can get copy anything here so you are just wasting your money really.
I would actually doubt that they come from the Jingdenzhen Region but you never know. Most likely produced in a knock off ceramic factory that does tourist tat.
If you check out some of the vids on Ai Wei Wei porcelain work and the people he use's etc.

Replica Ai Weiwei seeds for sale. sp-editions.com, by pookz on Dec 12, 2012 21:09:56 GMT 1, I was expecting to get blasted for this and I don't want to get into an argument, but feel the need to speak out. I have been through 3 suppliers to find a manufacturer who makes really good quality replicas of these (consistent shape, painting etc.). I had a number of quite lengthy discussions with the man who makes them in China (in Jingdezhen!) who worked directly with weiwei when these were being made (Wei employed 1600 people at the peak of the process). I have a signed document from the workshop that makes them listing the processes they go through to show that they follow the exact same procedure as those made by wei. I have a couple from the exhibition and there is no difference.
That said, they are not the real seeds from the exhibition. I have tried to make that clear, so in turn the ones on the site are much less valuable - you can buy the real ones here: carolinanitsch.com/index.php?/project/artists/ They are $60k for 1000 seeds.
The seeds that I am selling are really very beautiful and are made in a very labour intensive process (I took some pictures: sp-editions.com/images/ ) so I pay a high price to the manufacturer, allowing him to continue the ceramic tradition in Jingdezhen. In this video , which you have to watch, Ai himself wishes he could make some more to support those still working in the region.

Replica Ai Weiwei seeds for sale. sp-editions.com, by johnnyh on Dec 13, 2012 2:50:13 GMT 1, Pookz really not sure of the point here. I went to Camden market last time I was in London and bought a Banksy Canvas. The canvas quality was the same as the original even the paint was from the same type of cans Banksy uses when he sprays walls. Point being it was just a fake of no value and not art for art lovers (as you claim just trading off some one else's name. So it's irrelevant.
The one thing you do not have is a certificate from Ai Wei Wei asking you to be his reseller your just selling a cheap imitation.
Your selling these based on Ai Wei Wei which is just a con really. Just put Ai Wei Wei seeds into eBay and you will see my point.
"Ai himself wishes he could make some more to support those still working in the region."
He made over 20 million ( no one knows the exact amount) so I am pretty sure he could have made a few more to flog on ebay if he had wanted to.
"I have been through 3 suppliers to find a manufacturer who makes really good quality replicas of these". So your seeing my point here not a shortage of seed suppliers in China.
So my point and just an opinion is that these are just a waste of money as are fake Banksy canvass's. of the statements below one comes from your site and the others from eBay. So you can see my point hopefully. They are fake seeds available at a price. Which is fine but think eBay is a better place to sell fakes than here to be honest
Also noticed the post:
Just bought 10, loved the thing in the tate.
The post is by Samboy interesting Pookz that you and Samboy joined at the same time and your real name is Sam. Just odd really and not a good sales tatic in my book --------------------------------------
They were purchased from one of the assistant of Ai Weiwei from the city of Jindezhen, China where it was originally created. These were the leftover for the exhibition and you won't see that very offen. Some of these were stolen from the exhibition but we can assure you that ours are completely legit.
The seeds were NOT stolen from London's Tate Modern but purchased from an assistant of Ai Weiwei during a recent business trip to Jindezhen, China. They were the leftover for the exhibition, we are sure that they will be confiscated by the Communist regime sooner or later.
The 100-millions porcelain sunflower seeds were all made in Jingdezhen City where is seller's hometown (quite proud of it though ).
I bought these porcelain sunflower seeds from the origianl hand-made workshops. The quality is absolutely perfect. Honestly, I was surprised by these works, they just look like the real sunflower seeds!
They are still produced in Jingdezhen by same small-scale ceramics experts who worked on the exhibition at the Tate, and they are produced using the exact same methods.
Over 30 processes are carried out to reach the finished seeds, a very lengthy process that is also labour intensive. Each seed is hand painted with between 4-6 strokes making each seed unique.

This isn't true is it Pookz? Do you have two accounts?
What happened to the charity that you were going to donate a proportion of sales to?
(The charity was: www.pratham.org/)
See original thread here: urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=artforsale&thread=99314&page=1
It would be great to hear the progress of your charitable efforts and any feedback you received from this very worthy charity relating to this specific donation.
I look forward to your reply Pookz.
Cheers
