INSURANCE, by chrispa on Oct 25, 2012 9:45:18 GMT 1, I use these people www.homes2insure.com the website isn't the best - but they will insure just your art - you don't have to do other contents with them and they are not as expensive as others I found. They are v flexible too - when i buy new art they add it on and charge me a few pounds extra

INSURANCE, by chrispa on Oct 25, 2012 10:43:08 GMT 1, no - never claimed...and I guess that is the unknown in all this, but they have been super helpful. Everything over 1k you need to give them evidence of value and they keep it all lodged in case of need to claim, but no claim to date (but being insured does help me sleep better)

INSURANCE, by marwood on Jul 7, 2015 15:24:31 GMT 1, OK - yes I know - Holy Thread resurrection, etc, etc! BUT seeing as the last posts in the Insurance section date from 2012/13 I'm interested to know who people are using for their insurance nowadays, and if valuations are required up front on the policies you are using?
My broker informed me that on most policies they would require a written valuation on anything over £5k, but I have been led around the houses a bit trying to get valuations those on a couple of the more valuable pieces. It seems Bonhams et al are not interested in our sort of thing at the mo, unless its Banksy in which case they might deign to sell it for you! (Was quoted £500 on my Elms Lester Parla - or 'Parlour' as the chap insisted on calling him!! He wasn't even interested in a unique Shep HPM....). Other than maybe Dreweatts I don't really know who you could get an official insurance valuation from?
The thing is, we all know (or at least think we do!) the valuation on most of our pieces, probably far better than the auction houses, especially as they don't sell urban art anymore. The main marketplace is between individuals, on eBay and on forums such as this. AND if you are unlucky enough to have to replace any artworks then you are more than likely going to have to go through a gallery, therefore paying their markup. So should the insurance valuation be based on the price of replacing at gallery prices?
Sorry for the rant anyway - driving me a bit mad! - but any help and/or advice on good insurers and on the whole valuation thing in general would be much appreciated!
