But to be honest a decent tattooist will be able to give you a much better custom type piece. Do a search on the net and take in a few examples of what you like. Maybe try a few blogs like this:

I'm a bit of a type geek and could point you towards some fonts but I'd say find a good artist and pay the money, about £80 per hour around here for a good inker. Don't be tight with ya cash if its gonna be on your skin forever.

The amount of permanently inked horrible kerning (spaces between letters) I see, especially on DOBs with 1s in them, makes me want to weep.
You can't really blame the tattooists, 9 times out of 10 they will faithfully copy whatever someone's just printed out from Word, problems and all.
Here's a few examples of bad tattoo kerning from a quick google:
(t-hat, t-o, g-ood)
(P-ANIC)
(KILL-ER)
(Bad=Top / Good = Bottom)
(F-amily)
This was just never gonna work, or ever be able to look good!
