Conor Harrington Show, by Gard on Jan 20, 2013 23:48:12 GMT 1, From theoutsiders
Artists: Conor Harrington Location: The Outsiders London Dates: Friday 1st of February 2013 to Saturday 9th of March 2013 A Whole Lot of Trouble for a Little Bit of Win features Conor Harrington's sought-after study paintings. Conor has given his studies the name Morning Glories as he paints them daily, first thing upon arrival at his east London studio. These particular studies were painted during Conor's work on the painting A Whole Lot of Trouble for a Little Bit of Win itself, originally exhibited at Lazarides Rathbone's Bedlam exhibition in October 2012. The painting and its accompanying works from the same series, Whose World is This? and For Want of a Kingdom, the Battle was Lost, concern the transition of power from the West to new superpowers in the East, specifically China. The show is planned to include over 20 studies on canvas board and framed, plus larger studies on paper.

Conor Harrington Show, by Deleted on Jan 21, 2013 0:24:45 GMT 1, at the Rathbone show last year these smaller pieces were, if i recall correctly, รยฃ1500-1800. Sharp pricejump, especially as this Morning Glories series are 'knocked up each morning in the studio' so nothing more than preliminary sketches - I'd rather purchase a more finished piece I think...

Conor Harrington Show, by Dice on Jan 28, 2013 15:19:29 GMT 1, Only a couple of the morning glories look properly finished enough for the wall, they are quite raw which is nice but not 4k nice. For some reason I thought the morning glories in the last show were 1k plus vat? Must be wrong.
Looks like a VNA special Is the only thing I'll be buying on Thursday night!

The Outsiders is being renovated for the new show...
P.S. UmBongo is a better alias than SonnyOne! (I used to love that advert!)

Conor Harrington Show, by Feral Things on Jan 29, 2013 23:40:24 GMT 1, I thought 'Dead Meat' was one of the best shows I saw last year. Individually the pieces were stunning but it was more than just the sum of its parts and the themes running through all the pieces gave the show a strong message and meaning. I love the pieces in the preview for this show, especially the 17th-21st December 'Morning Glories', but for me they don't have the same impact and depth as the 'Dead Meat' and Bedlam pieces.
This isn't meant in any way as a criticism, just an observation, and it's always been pitched as a show of sketches etc. I think Conor's an incredibly gifted artist and I'm really looking forward to seeing the show next week.

Feral Things...I agree "Dead Meat" and "Bedlam" were two of the best shows last year.
In addition to your observation above, I would like to reiterate that this show was always advertised by Laz and Conor as a "Mini-show" with sketches and "morning glories" (as you acknowledge). To me, these pieces completely make sense in the context of both Dead Meat and Bedlam. His swordsmen and portraits of Jaffar are shown in analysis, progression of concepts, as one would expect in "studies". If they were finished and had the depth of Dead Meat...they would be exhibited in Laz for double the price point.
These pieces add to the artistic appreciation of Conor's process, in a similar vein to the way when the National Gallery displayed a multitude of par exemplar Leonardo studies, they enhanced the understanding to the viewer of the finished masterpieces.
I think most people who own an original Conor in their collection, would love to display a relevant "Morning Glory" (aka 'study') along side their piece(s).
