Obviously, it is of course all relative and to make such a point about art being a luxury negates all our viewpoints, however if we step back from that, obviously many fewer people will have an original considering they cost more than a family car....

Conor Harrington Show, by anbesivam1 on Jan 30, 2013 10:30:03 GMT 1, to me it looks like a show that was done to cater to the demand and a easy way to make some more money. other than giving a chance for the 'bottom feeders' to purchase a original by Harrington, there's little to these morning glories by themselves. perhaps an interesting insight to Harrington's painting technique, but they're boring when you isolate them. and for me, for near ยฃ4k you can buy some much nicer art. the large pieces on paper are nice though.
Always good to have your view point in the discussion mate!
Interestingly, only a small percentage of the pdf was available to people who have not previously purchased Conor's work.
Even if someone managed to get hold of the .pdf, they would have realised that the show had already pretty much sold out to Steve's "A" client list and people who already own original Conors.
So ironically, despite these being relatively speaking more affordable, they have basically been sold to people for whom money is not an issue.

I think they are studies from paintings rather than studies for paintings, or perhaps one version is the original study with the others produced afterwards.

Sand, one minute you are calling them "bottom feeders", now 'shame' for the "bottom feeders"? It is such a derogatory term and smacks of elitism mate. No doubt that they'll be a few new Harrington prints this year, with the Outsiders pumping out new releases weekly. Harrington prints were available for pretty much the entire of 2012 (except WWWK's) so fans have always had an opportunity to own something affordable by Conor.I like Harrington's work a lot. 'Dead Meat' was fantastic. But sometimes I question if people buy based solely on the name and status of an artist, or the quality of the actual work before them. Art lovers have always been influenced by reputation and status - that won't change...It is the way the broader public (who have not studied art history & form) get an idea of what "quality" actually is...your not born with this knowledge. A lot of the new morning glories are poor compared to last years. (In your opinion) And judging by the titles of the pieces, most were made in December or January. So it makes me question if they are true studies to hone his skills, or if they have been 'forced' - ie he sat there and painted them just for this show to be sold. For me there is a huge difference between the two. (True)In recent times, Conor has always worked from real models and sets to recreate that old World charm and sense of a bygone era. He takes photos from the shoot, digitally alters them to create the different dynamism found in his stills and then paints some "morning glories" and then the main canvas. None of these morning glories are based on the paintings from the old shows - fact. These pieces will form the basis of his future canvas commissions which we might never see in the public domain.

One minor criticism though is that I think his work lends itself nicely to antique gilt, baroque style framing. I think the white box frames are a tad lazy and a bit too modern looking for his style. Just my opinion though.
