COA Question, by Stender on Jan 31, 2013 14:45:38 GMT 1, Friend of mine has come to me saying he's knowingly bought a banksy print which has damage whereby the bottom 15mm or so has been cut off so there is no numbering on the print. The print in question was a santas ghetto release so was wondering were your details taken when purchasing from santas ghetto? e.g could he go to pest control not knowing the number but having the original owners details and get a cert?

If you cant physically prove the print is the one you say it is ( regardless of having the buyers name etc) I doubt they'd give out a cert.

COA Question, by Deleted on Jan 31, 2013 14:56:56 GMT 1, I'm guessing this was the 'Laugh Now' on ebay recently?
No details were ever taken at Santa's Ghetto's.
The only way to get it authenticated would be to let them see it.
( I too was guilty of cutting down an early Banksy from Santa's Ghetto to fit a clip frame, but in my case it was only an A3 'Authorised Graffiti Area' Sticker and not any of the prints purchased ).

No records were kept of prints sold at the ghetto (at least the ghettos I bought from). I was able to get COAs though by giving all the details I could, and supplying high res pictures.
I doubt they'd be able to do that if the numbers have been removed. They'd need a number to be able to assign it to an owner.

COA Question, by Stender on Jan 31, 2013 17:11:53 GMT 1, I can't see how it can be authenticated tbh. Even if pest control put it under a microscope and could do a CSI and say it was the same print run, they wouldnt be able to give it a number. Anyone know where the signature was on these? I assume in line with the numbers? he didnt say if that had been cutoff too.

Even 15mm would leave some trace of the stamp.
P.C will still issue COA's to damaged work, but if there is no stamp / no number can't see it happening.
