Advice please on framed print, by kendo on Feb 2, 2013 17:59:36 GMT 1, I've had the following print framed and as you can see it is starting curve out!
It is hinged at the top only using Japanese hinging paper. Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions on how it can be fixed or alternative framing ideas?
I have taken it back to the framer and he is reluctant to put any further hinging paper onto it. He has suggested to put a mount on without touching the print leaving a small offset and then bringing the museum glass down onto the mount. The only issue with this idea is that the print (in parts) will touch the glass, the musuem glass is ph neutral but I always thought that it wasn't a good idea for the print to touch the glass!
I think the reason that the print is curving out at the sides is that the ink is heavily focused on the centre with nothing to balance the edges.
Any ideas / thoughts or would it be better to just leave it as it is and allow it to settle naturally!?
Thanks

Advice please on framed print, by mouser on Feb 2, 2013 18:24:14 GMT 1, standard with most floated prints, its one of the down sides, unless you want to paste it onto a backing board its something you have to live with, the paper will flex with heat, especially at this time of year with additional heating on etc in our homes, a few of my prints have a ripple in the winter, but hang straight again in the summer. I'd not really worry.

Advice please on framed print, by kendo on Feb 2, 2013 18:57:24 GMT 1, Thanks for the reply mouser, that makes alot of sense and backs up why the framer didn't want any additional hinging to be applied (to let it flex). I can live with it, so i'll leave it as it is. It's good to know that its a common occurrence with floated prints. Thanks for the reassurance.

Advice please on framed print, by .dappy on Feb 3, 2013 23:25:01 GMT 1, I think it adds to the piece ... float mounted does exactly what it says on the tin ... art is a living being ... show the edges ... you have set it free to move and wander around it new home!
I would not worry ... nice print btw
