advice wanted de-rippling Prefab reflective print, by twist65 on Feb 21, 2013 23:30:28 GMT 1, My mates got a really nice P77 Skinhead Girl on the reflective Oralite self-adhesive media. It's a hand finished one and he's put it in a simple box frame. Thing is it's rippling quite a bit, which spoils the effect.
I asked Prefab how they would frame but the ones up at Laz Newcastle were just stuck to a wall with magnets! Just wondering how anyone else has framed one of these?
My hunch is that the backing will have to be taken off and stuck down to a piece of mount board or something - as I think the ripples are caused by the hand-finishing, ie the paint drying and tightening the paper at different points across the print. It's 100% a keeper but I don't want to suggest we go down that road unless there are any better ideas out there!!
Any tips would be much appreciated =]

advice wanted de-rippling Prefab reflective print, by Deleted on Feb 21, 2013 23:54:47 GMT 1, Probably easier to give suggestions if you post some photos.
If you are talking about drymounting to remove ripples, it will drastically reduce the value. In other words, Don't Do It.
Without seeing it though, I have 2 thoughts. 1: if the print is rippled due to natural drying of paint and came from the artist in that condition. I say leave it, or take it to a proper conservator if it really bothers you. 2: If it is rippled due to improper framing, then remove framing and take to a conservator. consistent advice take it to a professional, removing ripples will be cheap and they will do it right.
If you feel like throwing caution to the wind, you could place a flat surface the size of the artwork on it and then place heavy books evenly on top and let it sit for a month. Might work Might not

advice wanted de-rippling Prefab reflective print, by bigtlt on Feb 22, 2013 0:08:17 GMT 1, I have the same piece framed up and mine has similar issues. Although mine is very minor
I went for a double mount to try and hold it down and away from the glass

advice wanted de-rippling Prefab reflective print, by iamzero on Feb 22, 2013 1:11:56 GMT 1, I was talking to a gallery/ framers not so long back about how to remove the cockling that usually occurs when float mounting and he said they put the print on the hot bed briefly and that usually sorts things out.
