Sunlight on a mixed media on steel picture, by Deleted on Feb 24, 2013 13:35:47 GMT 1, Hello,
I've got a Prefab77 Heist canvas which is mixed media sprayed onto steel. I've recently been moving my art collection around and have moved this to go by a window. Does anyone here have any experience of how to care for pieces like this? Without the protection of glass will this fade quickly if left near a window or are these quite hardy?
I've tried to upload a photo onto here but having a few issues with this at the moment!!
Any suggestions appreciated.

Sunlight on a mixed media on steel picture, by .dappy on Feb 24, 2013 15:11:09 GMT 1, Without a covering, light will always 'fade' colours even light-fast colours. But will anybody notice it - prob not, especially if the light is even across the face of it, ie it only gets direct sunlight across part of the image most of the time eg part of it is always in shadow, then over time you may see a difference. Glass by itself will not offer protection you will need UV or museum type (or perspex for such a large piece if it is the 1m x .8m piece I am thinking of). if you have direct sunlight, I might be more worried with the metal expanding due to heat and bits of the mixed media cracking/falling off!
I have a large piece on metal framed and behind museum glass 'by' a window - no probs - but won't let the missus turn on the fire!

Sunlight on a mixed media on steel picture, by Deleted on Feb 24, 2013 18:07:34 GMT 1, Ah ok cheers Dappy. It's on the wall next to bay window so gets an uneven distribution of light. To be honest I think it'll be OK as if it gets too sunny I can put some blinds down.
Cheers for the advice - nice Whatson you've got there by the way
