Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by nealmason1986 on Mar 12, 2013 18:00:07 GMT 1, I have just pulled out my dal assassin and stuck it in a frame!
The frame is from Range and was only 16.99.
Its a cheap arse frame but i just spotted it and thought it might work.
As the wood is quite raw and so it the image i just thought it would go.
What do people think?
I might take it back if it doesnt work!

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by nealmason1986 on Mar 12, 2013 18:07:45 GMT 1, Sadly i cant get the print closer to the frame as there is about 1cm ish either side of the print.
so without a mount board the print would be between the class and the ply wood at the back of the frame.

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by nealmason1986 on Mar 12, 2013 18:27:45 GMT 1, I do actually!
I am not an expert at framing or frames as i usually get them float mounted and end up paying a fortune.
But i thought i would give a cheap frame a go as i thought it would go well.
I think it does but i am not 100% on the mount board.
If anyone has seen any other frames which an assassin will look good in or have any ideas on the mount board then please let me know.
I have not actively looked for a frame for my assassin and kind of stumbled across this.
There might be better out there

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by Deleted on Mar 12, 2013 18:33:24 GMT 1, I would get a 1 to 1 and 1/2 inch matt. This will remove it from the glass and even out the borders. Once the borders are even it will look a lot better.

the frame looks good to me.
But at that price it is obvious that the glass will offer no uv protection.
Unless in a dark spot, this will result in a bleaching effect on the print, that will be noticeable when the print is removed from the frame - there will be a darker border where the print was obscured from light by the frame.
For a print with value like this one, I would get uv glass added, if it were mine.

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by Coach on Mar 12, 2013 19:01:26 GMT 1, Whoops - just spotted the print does not go to the edge of the frame - so the darker border isnt a risk.
But the print could still bleach unless in a dark area.

Not to sure what this means?
Basically use mount board? Cut a rectangle out and put the print behind the mount the set it off the glass?
But what colour mount would I use? And one thing I like about this piece is the fact you can see the rough edge of the paper. A mount would mean I lose this?

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by Trevorm on Mar 12, 2013 19:22:24 GMT 1, It looks fine to me. Frame, mount and print seem to have an easy balance. I'd find a nice spot on the wall for it, knock one of them big masonry nails in and hang it. Take another pic and show the end result. You've made a better job of it than I could've managed!
I suspect that you're pleased with the job thus far.

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by iamzero on Mar 13, 2013 7:47:39 GMT 1, I think it looks good but if this is the piece you mentioned as one likely to make money then just sticking it in a non conservation frame isn't gonna help much long term.

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by nealmason1986 on Mar 13, 2013 9:42:33 GMT 1, Thanks for the advice.
The Missus came home last night and said she's still not sure on it at the moment.
So i might return the frame and then have it done properly in the future if she decides she likes it and will let me put it on my wall!
Like you say the frame won't protect the colour bleaching enough so I might as well take it back.
I like the wood but would like it a bit more chunky so might ask my framer to see what he can do!

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by alittle on Mar 13, 2013 16:33:59 GMT 1, Nothing like sticking a $1K print in a $17 frame...Pony up the dough, and have one made, or at the very least, buy one with UV glass and acid free materials. You are going to the destroy that print, which is fine if you plan to keep it forever, but if you ever want to resell, you need to do everything you can to conserve it.

But it's back in the folio for now and the Missus still isn't keen so no point wasting any more money for now.
Going to frame my John Doe instead!

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by thelittlesthobo on Mar 14, 2013 1:11:58 GMT 1, Really........are you really asking us if it works or not, and if we dont like it you are taking it back??
Also, are you really going to put an expensive print like that in a cheap frame.
And whats the thing with the girlfriend, do you want the men folk here to join you in solidarity and voice their opinions on their girlfriends so that maybe you can feel like a lad chatting with other lads??
This is just attention seeking......
Seriously.....

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by Trevorm on Mar 14, 2013 11:26:49 GMT 1, Don't let it worry you.
Going back the framing. I reckon (and it's just my two P's worth) that after time whatever glass you have in place will not stop the effects of sunlight, direct or even occasional. I have, fairly recently, retrieved from store, a couple of Julia Matcham prints from the mid 70's we used to have them in a corner of a bedroom, for about 7 or 8 years and one took more daylight than the other - even with 'expensive' glass in place there is a noticeable discolouring on the one that took more light than the other.

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by alittle on Mar 14, 2013 12:22:30 GMT 1, 1) Print/paper quality has changed significantly in the last 30 years. 2) UV glass is not 100% protection from fading. Think of it like sunscreen for your art.

Daleast Assassin - Does this frame work?, by nealmason1986 on Mar 14, 2013 13:31:56 GMT 1, To be fair I have learnt a few things from this post.
Use UV glass if u are going to have an expensive print in a room with light and avoid direct sun light.
Don't skimp on framing as its just as important as the art in it.
And ignore idiots looking for an argument on a public forum.
Thanks for all the input guys. It's made me rethink a few other prints I already have framed. I don't have any frames in the sun at the moment but I will upgrade one of my more expensive prints with UV glass to help preserve it!
I might consider framing something myself in the future but I need to do more research!
