Camera that I've designed, by dash on Mar 26, 2013 16:02:53 GMT 1, One part plug, one part looking for feedback -
wanted to show you the camera I've designed and some pictures I've taken with it. It's a cheap fisheye camera, HD, 12mp, ยฃ65, on indiegogo (PM me for a link). I wanted to replicate the feel of shooting with a film camera, so theres no screen on the back - you need to plug the camera in and 'develop' the pictures to discover what you managed to capture.
Originally only made it for myself but due to interest I've started a project to make a max of 1000 cameras.

i'm in the process of sourcing an xpan.. having played with a widelux for the past couple of months.
x100 is my mainstay ... with a f31fd.. cheap light carry.
i'll try any new cam... but am .. fussy

Tiny! 41mm x 24.7mm and the body is about as thick as an iPhone 5.
How many images can the camera hold?
It takes micro SD up to 30GB so however big of a card you put in. An image is around 20mb at the highest setting.

Its just the nature of crowd funding, the project only runs for a set time. If I don't raise the funds then I cant make the camera and everyone will get their pledges back, so its totally risk free.
I'm on twitter, but its my personal one @gregjdash
I've been giving all pledgers my personal details, phone number, email everything, want to be totally transparent about this. I'm not representing a business - just one guy thats designed a camera and trying to get it made.

One question - are you completely set on the design of the body? Given the current retro trend in camera design, my hunch is that if you designed the body to look more like a rangefinder or classic 70s/80s slr, you'd have even more interest than the incredible amount you're already getting.

The next one though I'll probably do a bit more retro - I've got a fantastic idea for another camera. I don't want to give it away, but it'll take technology that now costs ยฃ100s (that you can't do on a smartphone) to a camera for about ยฃ40.
See how this project goes first though. Only a week left, I'm getting anxious....

its just really to help drum up support, i'm gonna make a special version of the camera for the winner and they'll be one of the first to get my next camera. hopefully the push will help to knock me back onto the indiegogo front page.

a few thoughts.
what kind of sensor will it have - given its size - it'll be small - so do you really need to go down the "turn that into 12mp" road ?
surely perhaps turn it into 6mp - would be less power hungry.
charge via usb right ?
what kind of battery life will it have ? will the battery - given it's size be replaceable ?
(I wouldn't want to fork then have a very small paper weight in a couple of years...).

Okay, some info:
So I made this camera originally for myself because I couldn't find a digital point and shoot fisheye. Have been using it since before christmas, people saw it and liked it (infact when I use it I get alot of people asking about it, happened last week in the natural history museum) so I contacted a manufacturer and saw about putting it into production. the logistics are all figured out, just need cash to fund the production run.
if I don't raise the funds, i'm going to cancel the project. I'm not looking to start a business, just want to raise the funds to make some cameras and get them out. There's no long terms plans.
I've got loads of photo examples on the facebook page (www.facebook.com/fisheyedigicam) and on the indiegogo (http://igg.me/at/digitalfisheye/x/2445724).
Charges via USB. The battery i'm using has about a 5-7 year life span, lithium rechargeable - but due to popular request I'm going to provide instructions on how to remove it to replace.
It doesnt save in exif or raw - would be great though and I'm going to look into it if successful. Just cant confirm anything right now.
Full frame would also be fantastic - not sure how viable that currently is though. I've designed a second camera that I'll launch should this one be successful, but I don't want to give away the details of that yet.
There's no plan B - should this project fail to get the funding I'm pulling the plug and just getting on with my research and teaching.
