Conor Harrington • Fight Club, by Deleted on Aug 12, 2014 19:30:55 GMT 1, I honestly don't get the appeal of these prints at such high prices...After framing costs, you'd have at least 5K invested in a glorified computer printout with a bit of gold leaf. Part of the beauty of a painting to me is all the interesting textures, which just don't come through for me on a giclee. Interested to see whether the new prints will follow the recent hype in terms of pricing. I was also surprised at the pricing of these prints (even at release) when asking about what to expect at the NYC show. Great artist, but you can definitely see the Laz at work.

Good value or not there is huge demand for his prints and at the original 1700 price it was listed at it could have been a steal. Wouldnt put that sort of money into a giclee myself either

Conor Harrington • Fight Club, by randomname on Aug 12, 2014 20:39:19 GMT 1, Giclees are fine when they're priced in the $100-$200 range. But spending thousands of dollars on an ink jet print is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. At that point, I'd much rather buy an original from a lesser known artist.
I wouldn't say it's impossible to screen print Conor Harrington's work, just much more difficult. I've seen 100+ color screen prints that looked very near to originals.

But the same can be said about acrylic paint vs oil paint. I think giclee is the future, they just have to up the quality (the Conor giclee's are really impressive).
Oh and if you don't like printouts never look at the art of Julian Opie, even his originals are glorified giclees (inkjet print on canvas).

Conor Harrington • Fight Club, by Shoeless on Aug 13, 2014 7:33:15 GMT 1, While I do understand the giclee argument being made, its the only way for many(most) to enjoy Harringtons work on their walls. Im a big fan but originally passed on Tardis due to the price. I too thought it was a bit much for a giclee. Unfortunately, I couldn't stop wanting the image in my collection. I definitely couldn't afford an original of his so the print form is what was available to me. I ended up paying more than original cost and still I think I got a great deal every time I look at it on my wall. Sure, originals from other artists can be had for what his prints sell for...but isn't art about what the viewer appreciates? Its not always about monetary value or hype.

Conor Harrington • Fight Club, by mrchristopherrobinso on Aug 13, 2014 8:09:38 GMT 1, ^^^ Exactly!! I wanted 'Fight Club' the first time I saw it in Juxtapoze magazine the first time I saw it. At the time I had no way to buy it. No money, no internet... but now I am back in the real world and I am starting to come up on some cash. I want 'Fight Club' because to me it is the exact, if you will, "Juxtaposition" of contemporary and classic styles. Plus I get a true sense of "movement" from this particular piece. I consider myself to be a juxtaposition mainstream and hippie; conservative and free spirt; enthusiastic and apathetic; renegade and square... I see all of these things summarized in this image. I want this image because when people walk into my pad and see it they will see a representation of me. The drips, the gold leaf, the imagery, the hyper realistic vs whats up to the imagination.... all awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

His originals are making top money world wide and his work speaks for its self. I very much doubt if a few posts on a forum will make any difference to his career.

you're right, Winston, but people sitting on these prints might still be tempted to hype up the value, irrespective of how his original prices are doing.

We're talking about his print market, not his career. No doubt his work is fantastic but the hype is coming from people with a financial interest in his work. I'm forever reading x print is worth x much only to see it sell on eBay a few weeks later for a fraction of said value. Banksy, Dran, Ernest Zacharevic and now CH. To the people looking to buy CH prints, take care and have some patience. This forum is not the be all and end all of the print market!

I think you could probably get a Morning Glory (already framed) for the same price as some of the gallery fight club prices + framing
