flippers look away now., by slacker on Nov 6, 2007 11:25:04 GMT 1, On the other hand snakes a certain mr D*'s work is going up in price. In the past day ive had people wanting to swap micallef print (good ones) and Beejoir shell print for a DSTQ or a hate. Have i done it? Hell have i, im not stupid! Was offered an unsigned banksy trolley as well i was offered for my DSTQ. Again, that would be a very silly thing to do. The proof is over on the DFACE forum buying and selling board. Its very real... Sorry if this pisses a few people off. Im a massive fan of Banksy but POW and LAZ are forcing the prices down.
it's all about supply and demand.
there haven't been any d*faces for a while but there was a banksy last week and micallef's last month. over time these prints find their way into the hands of people who want to keep them and they dry up a bit on ebay. that's when the prices go up.
if banksy was to decide that sale ends is his last or if there were no more banksy prints released for another year then the prices would steadily increase again.
i don't mind the prices coming down. i haven't bought any on the secondary market before and would certainly like to get a few more. i own way more d*faces but wouldn't begin to think that he is bucking some sort of market trend. if the rumours are true and he releases a few prints before christmas and they are decent sized editions then the prices of his work will come down a bit as well.
if you are right though jboy then i might sell one of my d*faces after christmas and use the funds to pick up a few banksys. ;D

flippers look away now., by buster on Nov 6, 2007 11:30:04 GMT 1, Also, what do people think to the future prices of the older Banksy and Micallef prints? Due to their age, classic image and lower edition runs I still think these will stand the test of time, remain in demand and so increase in price as people still want these for their collection. I think the lower edition numbers will always demand more money, regardless of age. But I think the image is very important too, Trolleys I think is a great image as is GIWTBB, they are big editions but are still very desirable and once the influx of prints have gone prices will creep up. Along the lines of the lower edition numbers, smaller runs, such as the rats and soupcan will come into their own, many forget that there are more christ with shopping prints than signed, individual run plackard rats, the siged plackard rats and Radar rat have the same edition size. Soup cans will also become more collectable ( I know some already lust after them with an un-natural pastel based interest )

flippers look away now., by Rude Copper on Nov 6, 2007 12:03:10 GMT 1, im not sure i'd go with that, theres so many othere factors to consider, the plac rats have always been the big undersellers, i'd always assumed because they're rats & they dont look great on yer wall, probably the best example of 'grafitti losing its teeth when it comes indoors', the difference with radar rat being that its a small edition overall & handpainted, cwsb is such a stong image, its always going to command top dollar because its probably one of the best prints he's ever done, & again the edition size, all down to pesonal interpretation of course, but i dont think the rats will ever rocket in value.

I just paid £4050 for a sign placard rat. What's you opinion on value? I have no intention to sell so value is arbitrary but it always feels nice to have bought well.

There wont be massive edition sizes, they will be expensive and everyone will want them

flippers look away now., by a4mnt on Nov 6, 2007 16:20:36 GMT 1, why are we even discussing the current market? whats the point.
there are so many external factors affecting buying power that its pointless trying to second guess what is coming or make sense of what is happening.
just pick up some bargains, pay off your debts, frame your prints, enjoy them over a nice glass of wine and wait for things to pick up again if thats what you are really worried about, as the market WILL pick up.
In 6 months time we'll be grumbling about the rises.
