Advice needed - damaged print, by Coach on May 3, 2013 13:30:04 GMT 1, I would have thought that that is just their own returns policy and that it doesn't effect your legal rights. Who damaged the print would be a question of evidence.

Advice needed - damaged print, by letiss on May 3, 2013 13:46:59 GMT 1, Really sorry to hear that ling. Agree with Coach that your legal rights aren't affected by their own returns policy and it might be worth reminding the gallery of that. If it's not sorted after that then perhaps name and shame on here with pics.

Advice needed - damaged print, by dotdot on May 3, 2013 16:27:58 GMT 1, feel free to advise others of the name of the gallery to enable us to be aware of their responsilbe behaviour - this is by no means some kind of name and shame - merely a passing of information to enable others to be aware.
with respect the the image - it's salvagable with respect the the gallery - if as you say the damage was pre post then this will be 'judgable' by a restorer who will have say over gallery. (imo).
if on advice of restorer the gallery fails to take head and respect - then full refund should be claimable. (small claims with restorer as prof advisor). if on the other hand the restorer thinks otherwise then you have a few thoughts to cover.
note: if restorer states x to resolve - gallery should effectively stump to cover. (nqa).
either way - the work is not beyond the pale - it shouldn't cost too much to restore and it was probably gonig to be prof framed anyway right - in which case you'd have resolve the crink pre framing.
nqa ? ... yeah no questions asked
good luck and keep us posted.

Advice needed - damaged print, by dotdot on May 16, 2013 12:11:17 GMT 1, Given up hope on a replacement - just keep getting the same 'returns policy' jargon thrown back at me. Any advice on a good restorer? I'm not going to name and shame yet but It's probably not hard to guess. Their defence is that it wasn't packaged properly...
Yeah pm me , where are you btw..

Advice needed - damaged print, by tab1 on May 16, 2013 13:59:58 GMT 1, I purchased an expensive print recently from a very well known London gallery. The print was shipped in March and it was received in early April. Considering the size and delicacy of the print I decided to keep it tubed until it was ready to go to the framers. I opened it up yesterday to find the bottom edge damaged. It was centred in the paper (hadn't fallen down in the tube in transit), IMO suggesting the damage was not caused in transit. I emailed the gallery yesterday to be told that there was nothing they could do as it was outside of their '7 day' rule. I've spent a lot of money on the print, and from the gallery in the past and it's absolutely gutting. I know it was probably a stupid idea not to check but it can't be that uncommon. Anyone had a similar experience? is there really nothing I can do/they can do?
Always check contents on arrival , I bought four prints from a Norway gallery when first started buying prints and only opened after two months for framers and was missing a print , as galleries keep the paper trails edition numbers I had a replacement , but as most assume galleries pack securely and check contents but mistakes can happen. Hmp had bad issues with the toy print a while back and dealt with the issue well.
