Fergie retires....., by misterx on May 8, 2013 10:19:42 GMT 1, Sad day for Man Utd. and English football in general. We've all grown up with Fergie just "being there" so it will be strange , for me at least, to NOT have him in charge anymore.Great memories and an even greater manager.
David Moyes as Favourite ala the bookies...I'd take The Chosen One.
Edit
Know idea why I called him the Chosen one...freudian slip perhaps!

Fergie retires....., by dotdot on May 8, 2013 10:38:57 GMT 1, had to happen sometime.
the air drier is finally to be hung up.
question now swings to... who next ?
I hear Rafa might be looking for a job ... as is Jose.
Anyone ... is an adversary of the Ferg.
Will be interesting who wanders into the spotlight.
either way the spark heeled boys will smile either way...

Don't be surprised if it is not Mourinho. With United now floated on the NYSE they can't really risk a low name manager in Moyes. He might be "Fergies Type" but to much money in football now to take a risk on a Manager who has won nothing.

Fergie retires....., by Dellboyy on May 8, 2013 10:56:24 GMT 1, Yeah it had to happen at some point. Obviously a massive loss, he'll never be replaced. But having said that i'm not overly down about it, it's a new era, something to be excited about.
I really can't see past Moyes or Mourinho either, and i'd be very surprised if whoever it is wasn't tied up for the job already.

Fergie retires....., by Jeezuz Jones Snr on May 8, 2013 11:52:14 GMT 1, Kel I think you are spot on and agree ideally with they would go for moyes who I think is a quality manager considering the funding he's had over the years compared to the top 6. also he's one of the best tacticians, but football is all about money, big business and they will want some one with bigger profile ie. mourinho. A huge task but hope we (Swans) can spoil the party this Sunday with a sneaky win

Fergie retires....., by Cornish Crayon on May 8, 2013 14:24:50 GMT 1, So pleased he has gone as the competition will be even tighter now, I'm a Pompey fan so it makes no odds to me either way, but it's about time somebody changed the record eh,
But I take my hat off to you Sir mr F as 38 trophies in 26 years is probably untouchable,
Retiring at the end if season eh, let's hope the referee doesn't add another 4 months on ..............lol !!!!!

Hope all the debts are paid off first though.
Would be great if 'arry got the job, as afterall it was only a few months ago that nearly everyone thought he was the best English manager around. "Darn to the bare bones, only got four world cup winning strikers fit need to get a few more bodies in...triffic"

Fergie retires....., by Cornish Crayon on May 8, 2013 23:08:54 GMT 1, Gosport promoted aswell so two leagues below us now lol
Pompey gave and always have been in my eyes second tier, the prem killed us, and I will tell you this now and any fan who thinks winning every week is great...... It's not a patch on fighting relegation and beating the drop, the top half of the prem have no idea and miss out on the passion of loving your club no matter where they are........
I always said the top four were always more worried about the stick they get at work the next day than losing the three points ........... That's not passion !!!!

Fergie retires....., by curiousgeorge on May 8, 2013 23:55:03 GMT 1, Sad day for football IMHO.Slowly I feel he was changing the game in terms of players having respect for the club/team/fans(taking football back to the traditional basics) Rio aside (cough cough)
Hated them through the 90's but now have nothing but respect for him and his club
Worried Everton fan...

Anything could happen fella in this crazy footballing world, tbh I wouldn't want Martinez back. How about Martinez stays with wigwam, malky leaves the red dragons (Cardiff) mark Hughes goes to Cardiff, spends shit loads on past it players and Cardiff end up back in the championship

Hi Kel,
Just out of interest do you work in sport media then?
As for SAF, and as much as we despise Utd, and as annoying as he has been, the balance he has had developing youth with quality in the squad over all the years in transitional teams deserves due credit from anyone who enjoys the game. His passion was also to be admired, my last memory of him will be when nani got sent off when SAF came running down the stairs with his face as red as his whiskey nose! He defended his team like they were his own Surprised he has retired though, thought he would go on for European cup next year.

Hi Finsbury
No don’t work within the sports media but do know a several lads that do, due to working within the Sports industry. Not on a professional basis of course those days are long behind me and never did make the grade.
Regarding SAF I will actually miss him being involved in the game. He set the bench mark to where teams needed to reach and whether people agree or not wasn’t scared of spending the cash, if he thought the player warranted it. There are a lot of things that he has done in the game that go untold. Read the ex-Man City player Paul Lake autobiography awhile back and there was a section in it about Fergie. Paul Lake was due a testimonial as his career had ended earlier due to bad injuries he was only 28 but had spent many years on the side line. Anyway he was due a testimonial against Celtic but the police called it off due to security. After hearing this Fergie stepped in and fielder a full United team to take part in Celtics place.
I remember him signing for United when I was still at school (just) all those years you know the game will certainly miss his whinging. Saying that though he may have retired but he hasn’t left us, I am fairly confident we will see plenty more of him on the TV next year letting the FA know his full views about them.
I suppose he just knew it was time to call it a day. That or he realised Manchester City and your own Arsenal are going to dominate for the next 20 years.

Fergie retires....., by Finsbury on May 11, 2013 21:36:11 GMT 1, Hey Kel,
Yes I'm currently hearing a lot about sports media, generally about Photography at football as my brother in law has just been media accredited and has done a few 3 prem matches so far, his first being Utd vs Stoke (not bad for a well travelled utd fan!).
As for SAF and Utd taking Celtics place for Paul Lake's testimonial, was that not so he could mug them off once more!? What was the result i wonder? Mmmmmm
I agree with you about him still managing the team next season, as long as he is alive no manager will truly run the show.

Interesting, I think i'll have to read up on this, i admit i cant remember him (not quite old enough as i was 14 when he retired). I'm miffed as to why Fergie, who from what i know detests City and has less kinship for pretty much anyone else who support any team other than Utd, Tony McCoy was only talking about this the other day on the radio about his relationship with SAF when they bump into each other at race meetings, which AP said was probably down to the fact that he is an avid gooner.
