Provenance?, by Bbb on Nov 8, 2007 22:39:53 GMT 1, Hi,
Is it okay to buy a print with only the POW stamp and numbering. I'm buying off of ebay and the seller also bought of ebay and doesnt have the original receipt? Thanks

Provenance?, by jellya on Nov 8, 2007 22:47:08 GMT 1, You're usually OK with a POW stamp.
You're best off asking the seller for the name of the original owner (if they know it) and then contacting POW who can verify that name for you.

I'm presuming you are going to be spending a fair bit of cash, so I'd wait for a 'cleaner' one to come up if they cant help

yea il ask for the original sellers name, and check with POW.
I feel bad dropping out of a sale on ebay if it comes to it though. is this okay to do?

It's the only thing to do if a print ain't legit.

Provenance?, by Zippy on Nov 8, 2007 23:37:55 GMT 1, if it doesnt feel right, talk to the seller. If your gut instinct is that its not 100% - then walk away. Our instincts are usually correct. Z

Provenance?, by medicjones on Nov 8, 2007 23:45:25 GMT 1, If its a dud print by all means walk away. But you should clear all this up before you even bid in my opinion. (it should ultimately decide how high your bid will be). I would always pay a premium if there is full provenance as (a) I want to make sure its real and (b) it will also affect its future value/saleability. It gets messy if you win a ten day auction only for you to make your enquiries afterwards and pull out. There was also a fake love rat earlier this year (with a fake pow stamp) so be wary! Best of luck

Provenance?, by dotdot on Nov 8, 2007 23:58:23 GMT 1, excuse me I'll make this short.
no prov - if you're never going to sell it - is no problem.
on the other - hand no prov may mean no sale - if you do decide to sell.
people are only going to become more cautious of prints with no prov.
piece of mind....says Get the number and line of prov from current owner. check orig owner with pow - game over.
Current owner should be more than flexible on you doing this - as you're only doing something - which , ahem , they should have done for you, the buyer, already.
If you find they're not - read this as bad news - steer clear.
good luck
