Dolk - Crown for Sale, by vinzc on May 31, 2013 18:44:27 GMT 1, i enjoyed reading this conversation about 'flipping' art...
at the onset of my interest, back in 05/06, i bought pieces of art that i enjoy. i have enjoyed them ever since, and have not sold anything. this year, for the first time since, i have been quite active in buying art. 1) because i am less active documenting it as i have been from 05-12, and because im really starting to enjoy accumulating art.
i think for many of us, to say that we dont hope our art will appreciate in value would be a lie. why not spend your money on things that you'll enjoy, AND in 50 years perhaps shed some of your art to help pay the rent in your retirement home...while passing along those core pieces to your family.
in the process however, we might 'trade' art in best attempts to source OG's of artists we adore, or whatever. so finding a 'deal' of one piece here and another piece there...that we might like to hold onto for a couple of years, knowing that we might not be interested in keeping, but eventually trading out to another person who does LOVE it, is totally cool. i would love to be doing more of this, all while in the process, my walls (read: my surroundings), are an ever-changing gallery. so yea, if i buy artist x OG for 1k, and in 7 years it's worth 5k...well, there's really no difference selling it for 5k vs using it in a trade at a 5k value.
but honestly, while i am new to the forum, i do find it somewhat insulting that someone is looking to make quick buck flipping something that sold out in seconds, and flaunt it in the face of those who wanted it while asking for profit. it's just bad taste. and this happens everywhere right? want to go to see THE hot show/concert...ticketbots/scalpers are going to come in, snatch them up, and then resell them for 3x profit. complete shite. ill avoid/curse them every time. but this forum seems a bit too personal for that.
that's just my 2cents.

Dolk - Crown for Sale, by Deleted on May 31, 2013 20:59:06 GMT 1, I reckon there's very few people on here who have not bought a piece of art and sold it for more after a couple of years, with the odd exception.
I fondly recall a few years ago at The Leonard Street Gallery when I was somewhat drunk and purchased Arofish's erect and service and sold it for 99p. Halcyon Days. I'll recoup that loss on next month's Banksy release.....

Dolk - Crown for Sale, by Ottomatik on Jun 1, 2013 1:41:22 GMT 1, At some point a lot of us have bought and sold art on the forum, but what really constitutes a flipper? IMO a flipper is someone who offers up for sale a sold out piece of art within a short period of time from purchase for a profit. ย How long does one need to hold onto a said piece of art before it is NO longer considered a flip - 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or longer? What is the minimum mark up a person is allowed to resell a piece of art to NOT be considered a flipper. Cost, just shipping & handling, less that 100 pounds? Are flippers good or bad for our community? I really wanted the DOLK Crown but was unable to get it at release and would prefer a forum member offer it up for cost plus shipping & handling but is 150 pounds really unreasonable? ย I am curious to hear your responses. ย
As I posted on the thread where the guy is selling a hand finished Evo... I couldn't care less about the flipping. What I do care about is people selling prints that are not in their possession. These prints have yet to ship from source. It is not 'in hand.' ******Just remember, some people had to wait 3 months to get a replacement from HPM for a damaged Dolk.
