Dolk - Crown for Sale, by Wearology on May 30, 2013 14:09:27 GMT 1, At some point a lot of us have bought and sold art on the forum, but what really constitutes a flipper? IMO a flipper is someone who offers up for sale a sold out piece of art within a short period of time from purchase for a profit. How long does one need to hold onto a said piece of art before it is NO longer considered a flip - 3 months, 6 months, 12 months or longer? What is the minimum mark up a person is allowed to resell a piece of art to NOT be considered a flipper. Cost, just shipping & handling, less that 100 pounds? Are flippers good or bad for our community? I really wanted the DOLK Crown but was unable to get it at release and would prefer a forum member offer it up for cost plus shipping & handling but is 150 pounds really unreasonable? I am curious to hear your responses.

Next port of call to buy if missed out is art republic and will be probably priced at this amount. Some would think why sell for less when the going market rate is x amount Demand and supply , guys always prepared to pay over the odds for limited supplied products. From music tickets to cars guys will pay over the source price for limited numbers, for example a new listed Ferrari , people will pay 50k over the retail price Not fair but as some would see as easy money to be made and filling the demand. Also if this didn't happen there wouldn't be these crazy prices makes it more fun to secure one on release ;-) Hand finished evolution for me

Dolk - Crown for Sale, by DrWhite on May 30, 2013 17:06:55 GMT 1, I agree with the general consensus that a lot of these prints & evolution have been purchased by individuals who never intended to keep them. There are a lot on the secondary market that aren't being snapped up, these will be an easy pick up in a few months like bomb suit & leap, when the flippers realise they aren't getting a big payoff. They will also be used as trades, by members looking for other prints.

I am curious to hear your responses. My two pence: It takes big brass ones to come on here and try to make a profit 10 minutes after the shop closes (metaphorically speaking), but that's also to be expected, especially as the focus here, at times, seems solely on the money to be made, not the emotional or visceral reaction one has to art. Everyone knows it happens, and since you can (if lucky enough) buy a Banksy for 450 GBP and sell it for easily ten times that, the reality is that a lot of people see dollar signs, not art. Sadly, this means that art is treated like a stock market buy. You know it's an issue when, for example, the arguments against West County Prince seem to hinge on how it might effect someone else's investment portfolio. This is art, not coal futures, but because of the money, it's drawn in speculators as well as art fans. And the speculators don't want to miss out on possible profit. I think it's unseemly because here, a lot of the people might have actually tried to get a copy of the print at release to HANG IT ON THE WALL, not to sell it on for profit. It's like a giant middle finger to art fans.

I really wanted this print and hoped Id pick one up for cost+expenses if someone changed their mind. It doesnt look like its going to happen but Id rather give it a miss than pay off a flipper before its even in hand.
Hopefully profitfan613 will be after something to keep one day and karma will repay his generosity
