Picture Rails installed in Flat, by stradled on May 31, 2013 13:10:01 GMT 1, Hi, I was looking to get picture rails installed in my flat as the landlord does not want holes in the wall to be created throughout the place.
Has anyone had any experience with these? I have seem them in plenty of galleries, but never known of anyone getting them installed at home.
Based in South London, if anyone can recommend a place that would install them?
Any information would be grateful, not even sure if I am searching for the correct terms. I have seen a lot of variations, hopefully people can point me in the right direction.

first off you need to buy the rails.
think about what type you want etc.
then the perlon cables
then the hooks (which of course are not all the same).
Peak rock in the uk sell all you might need if you want to do it yourself.
I bought the stuff then did it myself first time around.. then when i moved i had to get a guy in .. due to the walls. (goes without saying not cheap but knew what he was doing and had it all done quick smert).

btw if you're renting - fly it past your landlord, before you start as you might have to leave them once you go go - a costly leaving present.

Picture Rails installed in Flat, by anbesivam1 on May 31, 2013 13:52:39 GMT 1, Good advice to get permission of your landlord for installation of the picture rail as well. As if they are ever removed the holes will need to be filled in and painted/wall papered over.
Good luck - they are pricey to get professionally installed (which is a must if you have valuable artwork and not a tradesman by profession) and they are really an investment for your own home IMHO!

You are right about it being a costly leaving present, need to make sure we stay for a hell of a good stint.
Was the person who you got to do it based in London?

Picture Rails installed in Flat, by Goooogle Male on May 31, 2013 15:29:19 GMT 1, I have a rail system set up throughout my flat in South London. it is fantastic - not just for ease of putting up, but the fact you can move your artwork around really easily without having to do any new drilling etc. If you are going to have a reasonable number of pictures (or ones with high value) it is worth getting a pretty solid setup.
I use the following setup. You drill a hole, rawl plug it and then screw in a (supplied) screw with large head. Once you have 3 or 4 of these along the top of the wall (one every 2 meters or so)the rail just clips onto the screw heads and you are done!
Rail - Locator Mini (has huge strength - I have 12 glass framed pictures hanging off a 5m length)

Perlons - STAS Clear Perlon - they come in 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 m length depending on your wall length. Budget for 2 per 'strip' of pictures (one for each side - they aren't so good for hanging centrally with just 1 hook on the wire)

The ebay ones are slightly different. They are more like the larger www.picturehangingsystems.co.uk/catalog/hanging-systems/locator/
Personally I also prefer the Zipper hooks to the ones they provide on the ebay one, but overall that kit is a great price.
