I'm looking for nice and simple web browsing with ability to uploading and taking photos and uploading/watching the odd video or so. It's for my father in law who is a keen silver surfer and likes to get out and about exploring. Child proof/friendly would also help.

I use a galaxy note 10.1 and it's really very very good for everything you listed Ricobenfico. Extremely good & extremely user friendly. Fotos & videos great resolution and screen view of them. I've tried a few tablets and prefer this for ability and value for money. Easy to use even for a less tecky minded user. Hope this helps |

Don't be tempted by Kindle Fire etc (imo) - only access to Kindle 'shop'. You can get the full range of books on android (N7 or Galaxy) via a kindle app no probs.
Galaxy Note 10.1 again full range of android apps via google play. Also now has Ice Cream Sandwich 4.1 as OS which is good!

I've an ipad 1 and it is so slow on this site its untrue. For everything else it is great, but since the upgrade of the site it is really annoying to use on here

I think the problem started for me when the new layout/changes were made here. However maybe it is down to the ipad also as when I used an ipad mini last week briefly it seemed to work fine. Baffled tbh

Have to say, my reason for this thread was that I wanted to stay away from ipad but just wasn't sure best place to start. So thanks for the recommendations and perseverance.
PS Cornish, my aunt makes the best Scottish Tablet (untouchable) so I'm sorted for that kind of tablet, ;-)

You might want to consider getting something with an SD slot along with a front/rear camera if you want to use it for photos (the Samsung offers this).

But I think you will find it hard anyone saying kindle fire etc is the top. not talking about kindle and kindle epaperwhateveritis as they are the best book readers. all imo

He loves it, finds it very easy to use for his needs. I can also confirm that my email address is now constantly being bombarded by him on a daily basis...... how do you block emails ;-)
