Jose Parla Artwork, VALUATION, by smalliebiggs on Jun 19, 2013 16:54:18 GMT 1, I was hoping that someone may be able to help me obtain a professional valuation for a Jose Parla painting that i have. Any suggestions on which gallery to approach would be very welcome.
The painting was bought by myself directly from Elm Lesters painting rooms in Sept 2006 and was one of the first three Parla's to come into the country I beleive. This was about 9 months before the first UK show if my memory is correct and before the subsequent price rise. I have full documentation and a letter from Jose explaining the interpretation of the painting and explanation of the writing on the reverse.
The painting is on a wooden board with various paints, markers, oils, wax ,inks and scratch marks being used. the painting measures 4ft x 2ft.
Huanch of Venison were less that useless when approched earlier this year, I had the feeling that they didn't know their **** from their ****. They were like characters out of the Fast Show, just alot of Ok Yahs !!.
Not sure how to upload a pdf to this post but happy to do so if required.
Many thanks

Jose Parla Artwork, VALUATION, by Happy Shopper on Jun 19, 2013 17:30:22 GMT 1, I'd assume Haunch of Venison would be the people to ask, but what about whoever represents him in the US ? Or Elms Lester ?
Or wait for the next big, suitable auction and submit it for valuation ?? Bonhams, or whoever !

Jose Parla Artwork, VALUATION, by misnomer on Jun 19, 2013 17:35:05 GMT 1, It's a tricky one - I've had a similar problem. He's not selling so easily on the secondary market, and his earlier stuff of your vintage is IMO much stronger than the recent work But the recent HOV show had "Avenida Constantinople", 2009, much the same dimensions, mixed media on canvas. They were asking $40k + VAT So there's an argument your piece should be worth something similar.... finding someone to buy it and at that kind of price (if that's your intention) is another matter
put a pic up if you can - be great to see it

Jose Parla Artwork, VALUATION, by Deleted on Jun 20, 2013 4:06:00 GMT 1, Whilst wizzys words were possibly overly harsh, blands words were overly positive .... There has been plenty of talk over the years regarding parla s representation and subsequent pricing and the damage that has done to his primary sales ... FYI

Jose Parla Artwork, VALUATION, by Deleted on Jun 20, 2013 9:59:35 GMT 1, Apols. i was not meaning to sound harsh or judgemental,i honestly thought that Parlas works had dropped in value on the secondary / resale market. Good luck with the valuation matey.
