FSOT HIRST TRYPTOPHAN FOR BANKSY , by gravity1 on Jun 20, 2013 23:13:17 GMT 1, Doc, I keep staring at these thinking it will hit me why people desire these works, not to mention the price they command. Can you tell me what you see in these besides possibly an investment ect? Is it Damien? When I read his bio I still don't get it but it's no wonder he's Britain's richest artist. I also read these "dot" works are actually created by "his assistants". The more I dig the more I'm left perplexed.

FSOT HIRST TRYPTOPHAN FOR BANKSY , by Rsyok on Jun 20, 2013 23:31:04 GMT 1, Try to ignore the artist involved , most people find the use of colour in these appealing. Pretty normal for people to buy artwork based on visual appeal.

FSOT HIRST TRYPTOPHAN FOR BANKSY , by gravity1 on Jun 21, 2013 0:34:20 GMT 1, Totally understand your point, but I think when a large sum of money is paid for art and it's something that could easily be done by pretty much anyone (referring to the dot pieces), there is more of an emphasis on who did it then the actual piece it's self. Which brings me back again to why? Don't get me wrong, I'm impartial here but the more I look into this guy the more I don't get it. Animals in formaldehyde, coating objects in gold, having assistants paint colored dots, record breaking auctions and revenue. I think I found the real MBW!

I also read these "dot" works are actually created by "his assistants". The more I dig the more I'm left perplexed. The colours in these are quite striking, especially the larger woodcuts. They work well in the larger sizes - this one about 110x110 framed with 9" spots. I have many images with bright colours & shapes, by Sean Scully & William Scott. They can all divide opinion, with a lot of friends telling me 'I could do that'. But that's art - everybody has an opinion - not everybody likes having a silkscreen of mau or Lenin in their lounge, they caused a few debates too. These can be very wife friendly - certainly in the Doc household.

FSOT HIRST TRYPTOPHAN FOR BANKSY , by mace on Jun 22, 2013 8:56:35 GMT 1, 1. Gravity, it's quite unpolite to start such a discussion in a FS thread. Just open your own thread in the Urban Art section or elsewhere.
2. I have Banksy on my walls, Shepard, Faile, Insect etc. etc. but it's my Hirst spot print that my guests walk to and like the most. And none of them knows Hirst, he is not a big number here in Germany.
What I'm trying to say is that the spot prints have a very special charisma, an interesting contrast of strict geometry and wild colors. I would have bought a high quality repro, but there is no good ones out there, so I saved money for a couple of months and bought the original (Lanatoside B). Haven't regret it since then.

FSOT HIRST TRYPTOPHAN FOR BANKSY , by gravity1 on Jun 22, 2013 9:17:40 GMT 1, My apologies, I had no intention of defacing your sales thread. To be honest I didn't even check to see since I responded from the newly updated posts section. It should have been a separate topic. Thanks for your own take on it and again my mistake for not checking to see the type of thread it was.

FSOT HIRST TRYPTOPHAN FOR BANKSY , by Deleted on Jun 22, 2013 9:44:28 GMT 1, Sean Scully and William Scott, wonderful. I am always surprised at how humbled i am on here and i shouldnt be,this place and peoples collections are merely a minute tip of their passion for collecting art, i just wonder what kind of Artworks there are out there in just the collections of members of this place.
Apols. if this detracts from the point of the thread but all meant in a good way i assure you.
Good luck with the sale, i am sure that it will find a good home soon.
