A little birdy told me that they are trying to trim the prints with the edge damage, and pass them off as proofs to other people to reduce their cost of having to replace all of the poorly packaged prints.

How is that even possible if the prints have been numbered as part of the edition? The only way is if they trim if the white border completely?

Its not possible, the prints don't have a white border.

Obviously bird isn't the word!!!!

This last issue prompted me to get involved as it is starting to paint a negative image of a guy who really holds him self to the highest of standards in my opinion. I asked Eelus himself what was going on and he explained bellow:

He has had an overwhelming list of people who were left out of the ATR release and after sifting through the damage returns he found some that were so slight he decided to offer them to some of these people, fully disclosed, that they could have slight damage and or be trimmed 2-3mm to remove a slight bend.. Also these prints we removed of any numbers, AP or PP designation what so ever.

As far an the original people returning them, all were offered either a new replacement print or a refund if they did not want to wait..

I don't really think of this as a negative thing. He knows the consequences of doing that and seriously if I were him, I will do it as well, in view the huge demand. Though I'm not sure if these trimmed prints will be offered for a lesser amount of money.

A print run is supposed to be sacred. You print the run, including a few APs for yourself/replacements, and that's it. In this case, he is reprinting a portion of the run, and selling damaged prints?

the circumstances that led to this happening is terrible packaging from him. he could of avoided all this with a proper pack job and if he wanted more people to have them he should of made the edition size bigger from the start. selling or even giving away these damaged/trimmed copies is one of the dumbest things i have ever heard IMO of course.

Lest I sound like I'm speaking up got Eelus, I am actually just trying to be objective here. It's art business afterall. The chap already incurred substantial loss (or probably much much reduced profits) by promising to replace the prints and ship them flat.

Yes, it's easy for us (the people who are not losing money here) to say he is dumb to do this, but let's face this hard truth - every full-time artist, banksy included, needs to make money in order to keep making art for us to enjoy. He is just selling some unsigned and un-numbered prints here to reduce his loss. I mean, even artists need to pat mortgages and eat, ha!

FYI, I also emailed him that I received a dented print and he is kind enough to offer me a refund without a second word (or ship it back to him at his cost). The reason for that email is to inform him of my receipt of the print and how pleased I am with his work (but with a grumble he has to improve his packaging next time). To get a refund was never even on my mind at that time at all...

 Some things are sacred also the word integrity pops to mind.  And to think all of this came about because of under par packing so the next word to come to mind is responsibility & consequence of actions. Maybe the trimmed unnumbered prints should be classified as back door prints and priced accordingly.  It would be interesting to see all the frothing mouths and rosy cheeks from high blood pressure if the artist happened to be Banksy for example??  One thing is for sure you can not please everyone..
