eelus not everything is so black and white on ebay sold, by rustledust on Jul 17, 2013 21:23:50 GMT 1, Just to add, the bloke who bought it has bought it without even seeing a photo of the print he's buying.
The pic used on eBay was generic and hunter is yet to take it out if its frame or send any pics to anyone.
I thought I was going nuts offering ยฃ1800 for one of these, but I wanted it in top nick. ยฃ2000 without even seeing it? Utterly mental.

The seller has kindly offered to deliver the print to me (I'm the buyer) in person this weekend. I bought it in good faith and I suppose if there was a problem with it would resort to conventional means of redress, ultimately involving litigation (ordinarily, sale of goods act offers limited protection in private transactions but would apply specifically in this case as goods would not be as described) .
Is 2K a lot to spend without seeing something? Depends on what you are comfortable with. Having spent 10 year of my career as a professional buyer I've spent a few orders of magnitude more than that, half way around the world with manufacturers and sellers I've never met in person and for goods I've never seen..
Was 2K a lot to pay for this picture? Well clearly I considered it worth paying. I've been looking for one for a while and I like the picture. I don't think in the long term it will depreciate in value and every day I'll have the pleasure of seeing it on the wall - long after the memory of the same amount spent on a holiday would linger!
I'll let you know how it turned out next week :-)

eelus not everything is so black and white on ebay sold, by 11 on Jul 18, 2013 9:57:39 GMT 1, I'm a bit bemused by all this - we have a flood of newbies on the forum, crazy cash offer prices (IMO) being banded around not just for this bit other stuff as well. And then buyer and seller turn up on here having public debates about things I would quite frankly be sitting tight about until I had assured myself that everything was tickety boo.
Seller coming on and describing how they did their own framing on a 2k piece, loads of 'offers', it doesnt matter what you have bought from where - 2k (which is probably a new record for this print )for a secondary piece means you would want to be sure it was in good nick before openly stating you've got too much money to worry about sense.
sorry but this is all a bit off-whack - is it hype to try and lock the NEISBAW in at a new price band >ยฃ2k

eelus not everything is so black and white on ebay sold, by Deleted on Jul 18, 2013 10:06:44 GMT 1, Nope i Assure you i have been on this forum for many years now, dont let my lack of stars cloud your judgement , as we all know stars make a man..
I didnt know the buyer was on here. and iwas purely replying to the info posted here about my sell. As you are aware i didnt pay 2k. As for the framing issue , why should my framing be any different to a random person in a gallery or frame shop? OF course i agree taking to a framwers should result in a better job. for allot more money. I framed this print All acid free , ph free tape etc, hinged with miniumm contact to the actuall print. no contact tothe perspex. out of direct light etc etc. Just goes to show that you can frame stuff yourself for lower costs and the print remains totally mint... Im a honest guy so assume the buyer see this. And i am positive he will be very happy .
Proper low number too if that helps ha ha
No hype here i assure you....

eelus not everything is so black and white on ebay sold, by fcp on Jul 18, 2013 17:15:01 GMT 1, LOL - really there is no no conspiracy. Let's put this out right now - my name is Ben; and if you look up my company - NowWeComply in google you'll see that #1 I exist for real and #2have nothing to do with the trade at all - I'm a technology entrepreneur.
So Am I new to it?- not especially.. I have a couple of Eelus prints, along with a few others. However I'm not terribly interested one way or another in the art collecting 'scene' either... along with many other 'scenes' its rather full of people with opinions on things that frankly I find rather boring.
I buy a picture - of anything else for that matter if #1 I like it and #2 I can afford it. End of.
I like this picture, I could afford what I felt was needed to secure it and so hopefully as of this weekend it will be mine.
As to whether ยฃ2K was too much? Who cares.. really. If it sets a new benchmark then that's fine. Good for the other 119 owners.. any one of whom is free to sell at below that price of course - its simply a measure of scarcity value..

eelus not everything is so black and white on ebay sold, by fcp on Jul 20, 2013 10:10:42 GMT 1, I am very pleased to report that the seller was absolutely as good as his word; driving 2 hours this morning to deliver the print which is absolutely unmarked and in perfect 'mint' condition as he described.
A good guy -my trust was well placed with him.

I didn't intend to piss on your bonfire in any way. I only commented as 1) EBay is always hit and miss in terms of reliability and print quality; interpretations vary massively. 2) ยฃ2k is way way above what this print has previously sold for. And 3) Considering points 1) and 2), to purchase without even seeing a photo seemed crazy to me, as it will many others.
Anyway, glad the print turned out fine and I'm sure you'll enjoy it for many years to come.

eelus not everything is so black and white on ebay sold, by fcp on Jul 21, 2013 20:45:39 GMT 1, Cool - thanks for taking the time to come back on it. Equally, I didn't want to appear flippant or arrogant about it. Point 1 is fairly made and you are right, it could have worked out to be a problem. I'm fortunate that it didn't.
Re. point 2 - I've been after one of these for quite a long time and the last one I could have bought about 6 or 7 months ago (which was in less than perfect condition) went for $2200 (ยฃ15/1600 landed). More recently, I've seen an offer of ยฃ1800 (here I think).. I don't know whether that sale happened though.
The most important thing (probably the only thing that really matters to me anyway) is that I now have a print that I absolutely love and isn't going anywhere; so up, down or sideways from what I paid isn't, to me at least, such a concern.. it was worth a bit over the odds to be able to hang in on my wall.
That aside, my instinct is that this is one of those iconic pieces i.e. one of those prints that an awful lot of people (collectors or not) identify with and often instantly like. My guess is that that this instinct is there in others too which is why it has become so sought after so quickly. We'll see :-)
