Seems a bit more expensive than other things I have purchased overseas.

But to save cost you could put ply on both sides wrap and pack it and it should be ok, wouldn't use just a bit of card as it could be damaged, or the other option is to get a cardboard shipping box that's either custom made of get one that's made for a tv as they are very substantial and have extra protection in side , tri walled etc think a box for a 40 or 50inch tv should fit the canvas

If its a pricey piece of artwork then think about removing from bars and tube it. If thats not an option then take extra care to protect it from the couriers as they like to juggle with fragile items.

But if it fits those descriptions and I think 100cm x100cm worked for me on a shipment to Milan. For one painting as others stated bubble wrapped and cardboard then masonite on both ends of the canvas works much better than any box. A crate is too much for one painting. If it was 2 works or more than a crate is ok. Also I have used many airfreight companies that you can pick up at airport and saves lots of money on door to door. US to Milan was about 300us 100cmx100cm packed with the masonite way as stated above.

1) Never use bubblewrap direct on an oil on canvas especially in the summer as the heat loosens up the oil and will leave bubble marks.
2) Flight logistics are a general forwarder and do a bit of art shipping on the side. If you use an art shipper they provide a monthly sea freight container service for art which will mean you can pack yourself drop off to them it then gets loaded onto a container. You then can pick it up at the office in NY. Cheap and safe way and less people handling your art.
3) never use a air courier eventually something will get trashed.
Here are the companies I worked for.
AirSea packing ask for Josh and say you know me Nick Enser from the forum and he will give u a quote packed or self packed. (triwall case will be fine or shadow box card (cheaper)
Also cadogan Tate fine art speak to Michael driver at the Ny office again quote my name and you should get sorted with cheaper quotes.

Steer clear of Cadogan Tate IMO.

Yes maybe i did, when i told others i know in the trade lets just say they were not at all surprised at Cadogans attitude and the way things go on there. Also them trying to wriggle out of responsibility was childish, the goods were perfect when CTs monkeys picked them up from Christies as they were signed out by Christies and signed for shipping by CT, all of a few miles later and overnight storage at CT they were totally ruined,if i wasnt in the trade and got a few people to back me up they would have got away with it, as it was their in house restorer further ruined the goods. Steer clear of Cadogan Tate IMO. |

Cadogan London who I had used before a few times with no hassles trashed two pieces (prints) on a pick up from Dreweats. Massive long drawn out affair they likewise wanted to repair mine. Took a lot of emails and a threat of court and bad publicity for the to pay the cost of the prints and shipping they took the prints etc then resold to someone. So got sorted in the end to be fair but it took a lot of emails and hassle.
Think it can go wrong for all shippers at times but in my case they smashed not one but two glass frames before they shipped them. For me it's not the calamity but how they handle the mess when it goes wrong and they were a nightmares and certain I only got the refund as I was just as much a pain in the arse back to them and would not give up.
have used other including F log and no probs but their all good when its working
