coding skills / bots...., by Zippy on Jul 26, 2013 16:10:41 GMT 1, I'm not that computer literate but am aware of people using 'bots' to get print releases - previously discussed on here.
However, the BBC News website posted an article about the use of Bots to get tables in restaurants as soon as they are released.
If you read the article I think it shows how many ebay sellers are using similar software to grab the print releases (and therefore have ebay listings ready to go before the prints are even released!).

coding skills / bots...., by dotdot on Jul 26, 2013 16:21:06 GMT 1, yes i'm aware as well.
captcha's do help alleviate the issue but they're not a fix. (does snaffle a few bot's as they can't READ).
I flew this idea past pow an aeon ago .. no response.
as with a lot of 'hey we're new' (sites) it's cool to have your site floored ... initially. after a while a re-write is necessary - most folks can't be bothered with that route , however.
btw - the folks you refer to also can be found lurking around ticketing sites as well. there's an industry hanging out around it.
I looked into it a few years ago .. and was tbh gobsmacked at the hit rate pow was getting from certain parts of the uk. (can't even remember how i actually got the info in the end..).
happens in the US as well... I'm sure.
pretty boring in essence.. but hey it's there... there's always going to be some folks .. nudging in at the front... even in a real queue..... (now where is that micallef cartoon from WAY back ?)
