HELP... releasing a glued print?, by mikehaspey on Aug 6, 2013 11:22:38 GMT 1, Hi all,
Recently had a print framed up, the guy didn't do a great job as part of the signature was obscured by the mount. I took the back off to adjust the print a little.... Now this guy always uses that brown tape which sticks great but peels off with no issues but for some reason in this case, he decided to use a thin strip of glue, I presume prit stick or similar, across the top of the print to hold it in position on the backing card. So, my question is, is there a safe way for me to get the print off that backing card without causing damage? I've tried lightly to peel it off but felt pretty solid and I didn't want to do any damage. If I put an iron on the rear of the backing would it soften the glue and release it?
Cheers Mike

HELP... releasing a glued print?, by Coach on Aug 6, 2013 11:43:08 GMT 1, Hi mike. That's bad. For me it would depend on the value of the print. If valuable, I would not attempt to resolve this myself. I would take it to a restorer.

HELP... releasing a glued print?, by mikehaspey on Aug 6, 2013 11:47:02 GMT 1, It's only a Banksy petrol bomb so not particularly valuable but still it wasn't cheap though. He's done a fair bit of framing for me and never done this before, I can only assume he thought it was a cheap poster off the market or something!

HELP... releasing a glued print?, by Deleted on Aug 6, 2013 11:52:59 GMT 1, I have used an iron to seperate a print from tape, gradually increasing the heat until the glue has softened enough. The glue still remains on the print to some degree.
You mention 'backing card'. This might be an issue as you'd need to iron on this - not the print. Too thick and the heat won't get through the card.

Yeah I think I will give it a try but as you say the thickness of the card may cause issues.... I'm unsure how thick it was I'll have to get the back off again and have a look

Might well take your advice there mate. At the moment it's on the wall so there's no huge rush but just thinking ahead if I remove it or sell it on

It's just a printed signature bottom right not an actual signature
