Football League 2013/4, by Coach on Aug 18, 2013 22:20:00 GMT 1, I couldn't see a thread for post match postmortems, so I have started one.
Despite my teams (current) dizzy heights, I have not limited this to the Prem.
I thought Palace had a good first game today. Up against a team that is hoping to finish near the top, and it was not the walk over that some predicted.
Sure, Spurs were clearly the better side, but we gave them a few worries.
And at the end of the day, only 1 dodgy penalty decision separated us. I did think it was a poor decision. Moxey was clearly trying to clear the cross with his foot, which was raised to chest height. He had to have his arms raised to thrust his foot so high. It surprised me that Graeme Souness said it was "unintentional, but rules are rules" or words to that effect. Rules are rules, and as far as I am aware, handball has to be "deliberate". So, if it was unitentional, which it clearly was, then it cannot have been deliberate!
I felt for Moxey, as otherwise, he played a blinder. As did Jedinak.
Spurs two new big signings looked very good. Super penalty.
Heads held high for Palace, I think.

Football League 2013/4, by Warm Gun on Aug 18, 2013 22:42:18 GMT 1, I can understand that Palace fans feel hard done by the handball decision. I've seen it a few times now and in my opinion Moxey's arm was sticking out a long way from his body, he clearly stopped the progression of the ball and it was imo a penalty, it made up for the penalty that Spurs could have had a few minutes before. I agree though, other than that mistake he played very well.
The three late Palace substitutions changed the shape of the game and seemed to allow for an attacking freedom that you didn't have prior. It was a good move by Holloway and Palace looked dangerous for the last ten minutes or so. It's hard to believe that minus Kevin Phillips contribution, the Palace starting eleven has only racked up 50 odd Premier League appearances between them. They performed well for such an inexperienced side. It can't be easy having lost your best two players from last season either.
I was impressed with all four Spurs signings, especially Soldado, he looks like he could be a real threat for us in the box. Defoe looks sharp too which is nice to see.

Football League 2013/4, by letiss on Aug 18, 2013 23:18:31 GMT 1, Looking forward to watching Palace next month at St Mary's and they did well yesterday.
I'm still buzzing after an excellent win at the Hawthorns. Anelka looked every bit of his 34 years and didn't trouble us at all. They will certainly miss Lukaku and might struggle this season. As for Saints, we've just signed the Italy international striker Osvaldo; amazing times.

Touché Sean. If I could be bothered I'd go back and change all the "we"'s from my post! Mitchell is a genius.
