Rolf Harris - serious question, by Hubble Bubble on Aug 30, 2013 13:43:41 GMT 1, Without dwelling on the allegations and taking the stance of 'innocent until proven guilty' as a fundamental pillar of the UK justice system, I'm interested to hear what forumites think will be the impact on the value of Harris's original works. I don't own anything by him but have to admit; a few years ago I was looking but found it priced way above my comfort zone. I'm not sure I'd want too many in my collection at this point if I'd shelled out top dollar with an eye to being able to get my money back or even more at some point in the future.
If the feeling is that prices will plummet due to his alleged proclivities - and even further if a guilty verdict is returned - it makes me realise how fragile the price of any artist's work can be. In a part of my business there is the existence of a 'death and disgrace' insurance policy which protects clients associated with celebrities from suffering such incidents and ensures their exposure to anyone bringing their product into disrepute can be financially repaired.
Just musin' on a friday afternoon, is all.

..yeah i remember him singing stairway a glast a few years back.... how much a treasure now.. remains to be seen.

It made many take up art.

After being submitted serious allegations, (or he was actually charged) came to light and the work was left as it was late in the day to pull. In the end the work that would have fetched tens of thousands previous to this went for pocket change.
I'm not saying this will happen in this instance. To be honest growing up with Rolf on tv I'm still quite shocked by the charges. This was one out of the many I prayed were unfounded. Innocent until proven guilty and all that, but nine counts don't look good.

Maybe you should read up on the case, as not all his alleged offences happened a long time ago, but in fact much more recently.

Nah. I think we've all been pretty restrained. Payney's comment is probably the most litigious, but even that doesn't exactly say "Rolf Harris is a XXXXXX XXXXXX" or anything like that.

Due to his celebritey involvement with kids I assume when all the info comes out in court if he tries to defend it. He could become quite a hated figure. So pretty sure buyers will not be queuing up to buy his work in fact can see them massively avoiding his work.
So hope he gets all he deserves either way.
