Blek le Rat at Jonathan Levine, by Deleted on Sept 6, 2013 20:21:55 GMT 1, You and me both mate.
But more than that - they're just very poor, which makes these prices astonishing. Something's gone wrong somewhere down the line. These bear no resemblance to his past work.
Has someone bashed him on the head?

Thank you for the link. Hmmm. I still think Beggar is one of the best stencils out there. Fabulous image. Always liked his rats, and sheep. Struggling to find something I like here, I am very sorry to say. Not too fussed about prices. Couldnt afford one if you took a 0 off each price - I guess they are correctly priced if they sell, and overpriced if they dont.

Blek le Rat at Jonathan Levine, by johnnyh on Sept 6, 2013 20:51:31 GMT 1, Like a few of the pieces Sid is a really nice piece as is the Dali and the Chinese Ignorance piece.
Not keen on the rest. The rats are a bit of a cliche
The prices as mentioned are really high. Will be interesting to see what happens with prices of his older pieces. Eg when the Older pieces appear in auctions are they now worth these prices. This is the second show in the UK of his work priced this way and I am assuming the last and this will sell most if not all the pieces

But this is more than just the prices and the images, they are just badly done. There's no sharpness to these. It's as though he's drawn the image with a crayon and then cut the stencils while wearing boxing gloves. And then kept them on to spray.

Prices are pure fkin ridiculous. No theme at all to the works, they dont hang together, almost like hes done one of everything to try and cater for everyone.

I think we are pretty much in agreement sean. You are, I think, saying the same as me, just a little more forceably!

Blek le Rat at Jonathan Levine, by anbesivam1 on Sept 6, 2013 21:49:18 GMT 1, Prices seem to be less than what they were at Opera London last year...but so does the standard of the pieces IMHO.
I have read somewhere that he is currently involved in doing a significant museum show in Germany and I wonder if he has hurriedly put some of these together...
Some of the stencils seem technically not up to his usual standard...I know many street artists can't do hands and faces...but blek has traditionally not only been reliable in this area but also one of the best at reproducing the visual qualities of flowing textiles / silks etc...
An artist with a career as long as Blek is allowed a blip once in a while - let's cut him some slack.
Thanks Rourke for posting this...it is lovely...Would love to own something by Blek...one day!

Blek le Rat at Jonathan Levine, by sin on Sept 6, 2013 22:03:14 GMT 1, i'll forgo the pricing discussion since its so subjective and from a value to materials discussion all art is drastically overpriced. what makese these worth it is if someone buys it. There can be an arguement made that certain work is worth more than others but to me art is like friendship, its hard to define what its trully worth but it makes life worth living.
Artistically these seem really poor. Both the exeuction and the vision seem tired and unprovacative. Im not sure what the hell the point was or for that matter why i should care. There doesnt seem to be soul behind the work and it doesnt hit me on either an unspoken or direct level.
I wouldnt want an OG or a print save maybe for the dog in the sweater and even then only because my 10 year old would find it adorable.
