Blek le Rat at Jonathan Levine, by jonnyx on Sept 7, 2013 23:10:10 GMT 1, Blek was painting this today at the Bushwick Collective in BK, a damned sight better than what he is trying to put on canvas. Even the rats look legit. why is he painting Charles Schulz in a Warhol wig? seriously though, it's sad for the scene when things like this happen. blek should be beyond reproach. the current evidence suggests otherwise unfortunately.

Blek le Rat at Jonathan Levine, by Dice on Sept 9, 2013 13:22:07 GMT 1, the whole image looks uncomfortable Where's the other hand gone? Why is there a poo on the floor? His earlier works are great I think, there were some lovely huge canvases at Bonhams last year that went for reasonable prices but this entire thread makes me feel very uncomfortable.

Why does his neck seem strangely elongated? Is that a banana peel in homage to Warhol or a piece of pooh a la Paul McCarthy? And why do I even care so much?

Blek le Rat at Jonathan Levine, by vinzc on Sept 10, 2013 15:52:26 GMT 1, i just got the email...pricing seems real far off. and the quality of the pieces are quite disappointing. agree w the above on both counts. vinzc, what is the picture in your avatar, if you dont mind me asking? hey coach...
it's a photo i took. for the last 8 or so years, ive been working on a project called street layers. it started by staring at walls with high concentrations of street/graf art...i would look for/at concentric points in the wall where pieces would overlap/decay. so say 4-6 different pieces, different mediums, put up during different seasons intersected on one specific spot...id photograph that. id take that weathered, now abstract image, and blow it up...sometimes to 5x7ft. it's actually how i fell in love with street art, and in turn started photo-documenting it in the us and abroad. after a while, i decided to take a step back and photograph the entire wall after studying it so close.
being based in nyc for a majority of those years, and the rise of the anti-graf squads in the boroughs...it became more difficult to find walls with layers and layers of history on them. so art started to spread out, street art began being more of a legitimate practice legal murals/walls...which are still gorgeous, but not in the vein of what i was after. so i started photographing layers of pasted, torn, weathered mass marketed advertisements (also illegally pasted, but some how permissible). my avatar isnt a good representation of some of the depth that can be found in some of the images i shoot, but i love the image all the same.
so the short answer is - that pic is one i took in hamburg of a weathered/torn advertisement.
