Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by spirit on Oct 25, 2013 12:07:12 GMT 1, Museum in the streets! LOL Bless.... it certainly looks a bit overkill but she's trying to do the right thing as she sees it - preserve the image but keep it in public view. Interesting article that she wrote about it - The initial rush of "Oh my god I've got a Banksy" followed by the reality setting in - Vandals, security guards, expenses, responsibility, hassle...

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by spirit on Oct 25, 2013 12:11:10 GMT 1, On another note
Banksy has done more to get these taggers "out there" in the last few weeks than they probably ever hoped to achieve in their lifetimes!
They may say they hate him but secretly they must love him...

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by warsaw project on Oct 25, 2013 13:01:16 GMT 1, Museum in the streets! LOL This is way over the top What's wrong with simply protecting it with "just" plexi glass? Women seems like an idiot to me... Viewing times, security guards, responsibilty, roller shutters... yawn yawn..... Whats wrong with it getting tagged and painted over, whether its today tomorrow, next week...... Its part of the process! Yea it would be nice for it to be around for people to see for a while, but if it were the artists intention then im sure he would have got permission from building owners and had the plexi slapped straight on it....

Yea it would be nice for it to be around for people to see for a while, but if it were the artists intention then im sure he would have got permission from building owners and had the plexi slapped straight on it.... Im not sure I agree with this let the streets decide thing
I mean all it takes is one idiot with a grudge to ruin it for everyone. Who gives him the right to make the decision on behalf of "the streets"? If 100 people want it left alone, how do they show that? Why should one person's wish to destroy be more valid than 100 people's wish to preserve?
Id be up for the "streets" deciding if there was some democratic way of deciding it. But the idea that being a) Jealous and b) armed with a spray can, somehow gives you the right to speak on behalf of "the street" doesn't wash with me.
If Banksy painted on my building I know I'd want to preserve it, and if some idiot came along and dogged it, I'd shove his can where the sun don't shine.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by johnnyh on Oct 25, 2013 13:50:12 GMT 1, Well I suppose true to form the street did decide!!!
They tagged it , people cleaned it up and the building owner did this.....
These appear where they appear one cannot expect the building owner to pay by the taggers rules just as the taggers are not playing by NYPD rules.
As much as I am not a lover of plexi glass and shutters etc I do kinda like that this owner has protected it and opens it up so people can see it. It's kinda nice that they have taken ownership of the piece but for the community as oppose to just trying to flog it. Understand not all they have done fall into street rules but they are sort of making up their rules for the piece that appeared on their wall. So I do admire why and what they are trying to do. Whether I agree with exactly how and what is a different opinion. I do hope it does not become too big pain in the arse that they just think f**k it and flog it which I suspect is what will happen

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by spirit on Oct 25, 2013 13:59:39 GMT 1, no offense to that article, or their points...but that was the best photo of graffiti they could find? it was from 3 years ago? and to a couple of their points? grow the f**k up. Agree... funny that they say in their conclusion that it's not jealousy that drives writers to go over him but most of their points make clear that they are totally jealous!
1. The Double Standard ie. Jealous that the police leave him alone (not sure thats quite true). Could also be seen as jealous that the public like his work (and therefore the police make less effort to apprehend him... they are public servants after all)
2. The work sucks At best a subjective "What we think is good art" position of which they are clearly in the minority. Also a bit jealous that Banksy produces better pieces in 10 mins than they do in 2 hours
3. Press Overload Jealous of the media attention he gets while they get none.
4. Doesn't even do the work himself Jealous of his ability to organise and pay for a team that helps to avoid him getting caught
5. Straight Beef Jealous of his ability to paint what he wants, where he wants, and ignore their "rules"?? OK, maybe just a straight beef...
6. The millionaire factor Jealous of his financial success.
No, clearly not jealous at all.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Deleted on Oct 25, 2013 14:55:33 GMT 1, Slightly losing my faith in human nature atm... does personal greed really prevail over appreciation and sharing!? I know what you mean AP. Does personal appreciation and sharing in an art show really prevail over the problems in the world? Not in East NY funnily enough. Is this show really any different to Eastenders or is the Banksy celebrity cult any different to Justin Bieber's? So far, I would say no.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by migsmigsmigs on Oct 25, 2013 15:19:01 GMT 1, no offense to that article, or their points...but that was the best photo of graffiti they could find? it was from 3 years ago? and to a couple of their points? grow the f**k up. Agree... funny that they say in their conclusion that it's not jealousy that drives writers to go over him but most of their points make clear that they are totally jealous! 1. The Double Standard ie. Jealous that the police leave him alone (not sure thats quite true). Could also be seen as jealous that the public like his work (and therefore the police make less effort to apprehend him... they are public servants after all) 2. The work sucks At best a subjective "What we think is good art" position of which they are clearly in the minority. Also a bit jealous that Banksy produces better pieces in 10 mins than they do in 2 hours 3. Press Overload Jealous of the media attention he gets while they get none. 4. Doesn't even do the work himself Jealous of his ability to organise and pay for a team that helps to avoid him getting caught 5. Straight Beef Jealous of his ability to paint what he wants, where he wants, and ignore their "rules"?? OK, maybe just a straight beef... 6. The millionaire factor Jealous of his financial success. No, clearly not jealous at all. 1. Reminds me of how "celebrities" have different rules to the other 90% of society so wouldn't class it as jealousy just simply a level playing field for all, after all many graffiti artists have done some amazing works that I'm sure the public loved but they were simply "vandals" and got buffed
2. It may take banksy 10 mins to spray the piece but I'll bet he spends multiple hours finding images and cutting the stencils, so again the time it takes is of no consequence
3. I wouldn't say banksy was in it for the media fame or else he would be well known like other artists i.e. Seen, Saber, Lee, Cope etc. Then you get the opposite spectrum of people who want the graffiti "fame" Ja, Cost, Revs, Smith etc who just wanted to get up as much as possible without wanting rewards
4. Not jealous as many people have been working on collabs and in crews for the love of the art without having to get paid for many years
5. Beef will always beef
6. See 3
