Think it just means he's bigger and better and this is a big concept. also when has he ever let you down.........glitter Gorrila.....fair enough he has so far captured the worlds media, this thing is running in real time as the pieces develop and change, he has engaged the New York scene, his truck could be his first comment on the environment, last nights video show. A Muslim freedom fighter/terrorist shooting down Dumbo a consumer icon and proclaiming God is Good. so in a minute and a half you had religion, politics, war, consumerism, brands etcetc social media is buzzing. If he had put this vid on his site last week how many views? Now how many so it's all in play now. So we do not have all the answers yet but to be fair we have only looked at 6 pieces of a 31 piece show. Eg we are still at the entrance. There is still a lot to happen and see. The video I think was a bit of a game changer. Both in its style and content. its all been nice and playful upto this point. muslims shouting God is Good after shooting down an American icon at a New York show starts to unravel that concept even though there is some humour with it. So think things are building Upto some commentaries and statements. Roll on I say the show has just started

Of course I'm not going to say that I think my own position is bs, but I will admit that I'm curious/fearful to look back on my posts in a few years once I've left the university environment, where "intellectualism for the sake of it" is almost unavoidable.

I would not make a post about banksy on my blog, even if i post my opinion in here. My blog is more personal and takes on a more positive spin on artists that I enjoy. If I dont like an artist or a show I dont take the time to write about them. Im not a real critique and I dont feel the need to cover every show or artist. Vandalog takes a more journalistic view and that is why i shared it. I dont take this approach with my blog. For this reason I share other's, in this case vandalog.
On a side note what is wrong with analyzing the actual work in depth. People like to read about this sort of thing, others dont its not for everyone. Would you rather read 10 posts about how great something looks with out a different perspective. Its not going to change your perspective, yet its another view that maybe someone hadnt thought about.

you really don't like being challenged, it's not about defending a status quo, it's about freedom of expression. I enjoy reading your posts I do however feel you do like to revel in their extravagance rather than in the actual debate at hand.

I do not read the commentaries. I do enjoy and appreciate certain blogs/sites sharing work I would not have seen or known about otherwise, but that is the extent of their use for me personally.
LOL and maybe we need a 2 paragraph rule for posts I say if you want to write a dissertation, blog it.

This is from my trek around DUMBO, and do you know what is not in this picture? A Banksy!
There is a ton of great art tucked here and there all throughout DUMBO, but as this is a Banksy thread I won't clog it up with other work.

Its still early so maybe there will be a string of concept that ties everything into each other, right now this mis match group of work seems a bit all over the place from the perspective of the intial week so far. If I where walking through any exhibit even one being in the outdoors seeing how the pieces all work together is tough. If he does consider this a show outdoors it could be critiques from the same perspective as a regular exhibition, meaning if all these pieces where in one room would they all work together or tell a story.
I'm beginning to go back to my original assessment of the title of the show. I think OUT isn't the location, as in outside, it's the ideas that he wants to get out of his head. Stuff that's been building up in his noggin but which doesn't really fit into any particular theme, execution or narrative. I imagine we will see a lot of styles, targets and mediums. As to New Yorkers opening their eyes to the art on the streets...well that's just comical. NYC's history in graffiti, past and present, speaks for itself. We didn't need Banksy for this.
Here's a nice thought - imagine how New Yorkers are opening their eyes to the art on the streets now, all looking for the next banksy. This will really do wonders for the scene there The critical dialogue and assorted hypotheses here are a wonderful part of art, whether spot on or completely off. I work in music...people trying to guess the meaning literal or otherwise regarding lyrics is always amusing. As to New Yorkers opening their eyes to the art on the streets...well that's just comical. NYC's history in graffiti, past and present, speaks for itself. We didn't need Banksy for this. |
