Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by nrgball on Oct 31, 2013 21:56:18 GMT 1, Think they wanna check it for fingerprints? or just hang it in the station?
You can almost visualize/hear the laughter when the cops bring this back to the station. Cheering that they finally caught Banksy!! All the staff clapping, standing and celebrating. I wish I could be a fly on the wall!!

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Deleted on Oct 31, 2013 22:08:49 GMT 1, Happy Halloween everybody! Thank you very much Banksy and thank you to the forum and it's members who were such a big part of the 'show' for me. Hope you hang around so I can continue to enjoy your input.Selfish yes but I know you love it too. Been a great month on here and I really hope that the mostly good vibes can continue. Be Xmas soon. So so nice to have the forum concentrated on an art show and actual art instead of the usual talk about the price of this and the price of that or oh, I really want/need this or that. The power of Banksy aye. Nice one everybody. Fuck yeah!

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by spirit on Oct 31, 2013 22:20:14 GMT 1, I guess its not completely over till the auction ends in 2 hours and 40mins...
Price is at $310,400 and has been for some time... do you think there will be a massive rush at the end? Or will it stay near where it is now?
Would love to see it make over a million dollars as our self-appointed-banksy-expert reckoned...
That would be the icing on the cake for such a good cause.

I know most of of you guys could care less but seems the critics are starting to have there words now.
Pretty harsh response to the show ranking the pieces.

He should have realeased some 'tag' prints like Tox did, some nutters on here would have paid lots for them..

I'm only on his first review of the works
Edit: This is quite an amusing review.

That review is laughable, it's as if it's gone out of its way to not interpret or misinterpret the whole month. Weak. Bitter bile lacking an informative knowledge of the artist. Of course this is also the logical opposing attitude to the equally laughable love in (with no thought for meaning) that occurs.

I agree its pretty heavy handed but him not engaging the work as he would another artist just goes to show maybe he doesnt take it serious in the first place and relevant to a real critique. Thats what i get atleast. The roberta smith article i posted yesterday from the NYT was more thought out and engaging.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by courier on Oct 31, 2013 23:14:21 GMT 1, Who would have thought that something that started and ended with a throw-up could be so much fun in between! There were pieces (and incidents) that made me laugh (loved the audios), pieces that made me cry (crazy horses), and days when I just scratched my head (ants?). A big THANKSY to Banksy and everyone here (and especially in New York) who added so much to the enjoyment of the last month. So which city next time? (There's just got to be a next time?)

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by nah on Oct 31, 2013 23:20:12 GMT 1, i can see how his work puts critics in a tough spot. amusing and revealing to see saltz trying desperately to frame banksy's work in the context of the contemporary art world with barely relevant comparisons to Lawrence Weiner and Gabriel Orozco
the art blogs that focused on the public's reaction to the pieces (eg hyperallergic) come out of this looking a million times better than those critiquing it the same way they would a standard exhibition by a standard artist

I think of all People Deitch sums this point up pretty well in a recent interview.
"Academic conceptual art, much of it, in its sort of gallery-ready form, has difficulty connecting with a broad range of cultured people who are interested in visual culture. Banksy, who is very much a conceptual artist, works in a way that is very direct; he plays with media and with culture and gets it on so many levels and really is able to connect with people. So, some of the more academic conceptualists are worried about protecting their position: they see a Banksy coming out of nowhere, drawing 75,000 people to a pop-up show over three days and getting nominated for an Oscar for his film. How do you think the academic conceptualists feel when all their lives they have relied on the same old system of validation by certain respected critics, magazines, museums, and galleries? Banksy doesn’t need this validation system because his audience is reacting directly: there is no need for a critic’s validation anymore. Academic conceptualism, however, can only thrive with this kind of validation."

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Hairbland on Oct 31, 2013 23:45:08 GMT 1, Roberta Smith is an actual art critic, who offered valid points. She waited until the end of the show to evaluate it as a whole (other than the balloons).
Jerry Saltz was everywhere during this, blowing his own horn - on NPR, within his publication, on TV and more. This is the 4th or 5th appearance of his thoughts, negative from the first. He used this opportunity to be the oxpecker to Banksy's rhino.
