Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by nrgball on Nov 1, 2013 0:12:28 GMT 1, Roberta Smith is an actual art critic, who offered valid points. She waited until the end of the show to evaluate it as a whole (other than the balloons). Jerry Saltz was everywhere during this, blowing his own horn - on NPR, within his publication, on TV and more. This is the 4th or 5th appearance of his thoughts, negative from the first. He used this opportunity to be the oxpecker to Banksy's rhino.
Almost seems as though he was riding on Bs coattail now that I look back on it from afar.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by spirit on Nov 1, 2013 0:18:45 GMT 1, If you're intellectually incapable of understanding what you're looking at and why, you're in a fairly pointless position trying to make a coherent argument as to why you dislike it. Spot on.
Made even worse by then labelling it all as "obvious"
He reminded me of my 8 year old self in the Tate, looking at a Kandinsky's Cossaks and blurting out "I could do that!"

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by spirit on Nov 1, 2013 0:22:44 GMT 1, Agree. I think of all People Deitch sums this point up pretty well in a recent interview. "Academic conceptual art, much of it, in its sort of gallery-ready form, has difficulty connecting with a broad range of cultured people who are interested in visual culture. Banksy, who is very much a conceptual artist, works in a way that is very direct; he plays with media and with culture and gets it on so many levels and really is able to connect with people. So, some of the more academic conceptualists are worried about protecting their position: they see a Banksy coming out of nowhere, drawing 75,000 people to a pop-up show over three days and getting nominated for an Oscar for his film. How do you think the academic conceptualists feel when all their lives they have relied on the same old system of validation by certain respected critics, magazines, museums, and galleries? Banksy doesn’t need this validation system because his audience is reacting directly: there is no need for a critic’s validation anymore. Academic conceptualism, however, can only thrive with this kind of validation." www.brooklynrail.org/2013/10/art/jeffrey-deitch-with-david-carrier-and-joachim-pissarro Damn, same idea, but Deitch put it so much better than I did on Jerry's comments...(I'm Torin on there)

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by randomname on Nov 1, 2013 0:24:27 GMT 1, Someone's just trolling for clicks. I did find this amusing though.
I'd give you everything I've got, if you promise not to come back to New York.
I'm willing to bet everything I've got that everything he's got couldn't buy a Banksy original done in five minutes.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Rubys on Nov 1, 2013 2:09:47 GMT 1, Wow, what a month this has been. I really appreciate all the NY member for sharing their photos and information throughout.
What a great end to this all, a simple bubble tag and $600k for charity.
My hat goes off to you sir. Hopefully this isn't the end.
As for the bubble piece, classic New York style with a banksy twist, I love it. The photos on the site didn't do the size justice at all. It's funny seeing all these videos pop up of the police taking them away. Mr Bs watching all this going down and having a good ol laugh.
I look forward in seeing the remaining pieces next year when I'm in holidays

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by dkla on Nov 1, 2013 5:11:55 GMT 1, Having read it, I'm flabbergasted. The piece is immature, insecure, ignorant and borderline belligerent. It's also self aggrandizing and lazy. I'm totally beside myself at Saltz's cluelessness. What a small mind. He's so out of touch, it's embarrassing. Yes that is the word: I was embarrassed for him having wrote that. He can seriously go fuck himself.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by johnnyh on Nov 1, 2013 5:36:57 GMT 1, Think it's quite a lot to do with the New York art scene commentators and street names being a tad embarrassed that a Brit artists just mowed their lawn. Unfortunately for them no matter what their reaction....the New Yorkers loved it. The art establishment even in the UK in general disliked the show which is what probably further cements it as a truly great show.
they can say what they like never seen a show that has captivated a city for a month. People like us globally monitoring the show in real time. Regardless of whether you like Banksy or not the point these sad commentators and even the street artists are missing is that this is good for art.
the acceptance of street art has been validated...sure it won't change anything but pretty sure it has helped even the 5pointz art claim. Think they have a stronger case after this as the judge etc will have seen this
