A lot of bands on independent labels these days find it difficult to fund videos as they can be pretty expensive. For the 4 mascot costumes and food for the crew for 2 days it is already over £1000, then we have to hire lights, buy bits and pieces for production design, pay location costs, pay fees for the few people who won't work on the project for free (e..g specialist special FX crew) then cover transport, insurance and a load of other nonsense that has to be covered. It will cost between 2 and 3 thousand pounds to shoot a video of this nature and that is with 95% of people (including myself) not getting paid and you're talking a month's work on my behalf to do it. The music industry is a f**k up in terms of how little money is generated for a lot of bands who look to be doing pretty well, touring the world,w ith a strong fan base etc...It looks a lot better from the outside looking in than it really is in reality. I love the band, love the album, love the video and so I am more than willing to help out as I feel it is a strong piece for my portfolio as well. The label will be paying some of the cost but they won't be able to cover everything unfortunately, just the way of the world these days.
