Castle Morton 1992 news coverage , by spirit on Nov 2, 2013 11:35:34 GMT 1, Castle Morton was mental, I was there for 4 or 5 days.
2 memories stand out the most...
The queues of cars trying to get there went on for miles and eventually people got fed up and just got out of their cars and left them where they were on the road, which just became a massive car park. I remember a police car had tried to come up the side of the cars but got blocked by other cars in front. Some travellers then pulled another vehicle up on the other side of the cop car and another behind it blocking it in completely - and the police inside couldn't get out as they couldn't open their doors... One of the most surreal sights I have ever seen was a traveller sitting on the bonnet of the police car, shouting "Acid, Acid - get your Acid here" with the police inside completely unable to do anything about it.
The other was when we left. A friend of mine left about a half-hour before me with 3 girls in the back and another mate in the passenger seat. They were all very messy and very tired. The passengers all fell asleep very quickly and the driver not long after - doing 90 in the outside lane of the motorway. The passenger woke up just as the car was about to hit the central reservation, saw driver was asleep and grabbed the wheel - but he over-corrected and the car went into a spin. Span right across the 3 lanes, hit the embankment, turned over and rolled up it a few times, then rolled back down and was only prevented from rolling back onto the motorway buy a fortuitously placed SOS phone....
I saw the car completely totalled on the side of the motorway as I drove past about half-hour later - but no sign of them - very concerned for their safety as you can imagine....
Miraculously, not only did they all survive, but not one of them got so much as a scratch. Probably helped by the fact they were asleep when it happened. Very Very lucky people. We all learnt a lesson from that...

Castle Morton 1992 news coverage , by Chrisp on Nov 2, 2013 21:00:43 GMT 1, Great memories from Castle Morton, the best party i have been to, only ones i attend now are in my house on my own with headphones so i don't wake he family up I had many friends living on sites at the time all over the country so i was pretty lucky finding out info and other things Spent 4 days there and returned midweek to get more supplies with my aunty even though there were not many people left there. Very good friend of mine managed to get his mini in the circle of Spiral Tribe so that was pretty much where we stopped for the duration. Best point for me was taking some trips and walking to the top of the hills during the day when a thunder storm started, lightening all around Malvern and we had the best viewpoint ever and all we could hear was one of the parties playing 'I am a nightmare Walking' me and another friend still mention it quite often as it was one of the best experiences of my life partying Circus Warp, Bedlam, Spiral Tribe anyone remember anymore my minds a bit blank these days!

Castle Morton 1992 news coverage , by Chrisp on Nov 2, 2013 21:14:24 GMT 1, Part of the reason i bought this on the left from Ebay the other week. Ones at Castle Morton were Silver Buddhas(very pokey) and these are what we returned for the following week. They are blank blotters by the way and are also days gone by for me! I am not pro drugs at all for anyone reading this in disgust its just an each to their own for me. I have a sister that is a crack and heroin addict so i very much understand the dark sides of drug abuse.

Ahh the days of globalhypercolour T's eh. I'll add Do It Yourself to that list chrisby, also for their very Murikami flower stickers. I do also remember Stonehenge festi's every year. Saw Marilyn(singer not icon) walking the main drag once & thought he looked at home. I must try to dig out some snaps...

Castle Morton 1992 news coverage , by searchandrescue on Nov 3, 2013 13:26:55 GMT 1, ...didn't go Castle Morton, but did go to Letham festival (The Battle of Dun Nechtain), 93,94 blew my mind. Many, many happy memories. Mostly of meeting genuinely free spirited people who all wanted to party irrespective of background, colour or creed. Bikers, mixed with punks, mixed with ravers, mixed with the local scallywags! Went again the next year, just as good if not better! The farmers barn was playing breakbeat / hardcore? and sativa sound system were there with some sublime loopy / minimal techno! All for nothing save a few quid for your sweeties, petrol, generator and the emotional investment you were prepared to make in enjoying yourself. Yes, slightly misted rose tinted spectacles... but throws into sharp relief what is happening on the "scene' / with society today.

Castle Morton 1992 news coverage , by Finsbury on Nov 3, 2013 14:39:55 GMT 1, A brilliant thread. I survived 4 days at CM. It was by far the best party since my partying began early 1990. I used knock around with a DJ from Circus Warp (Martian) and almost every weekend we did what many did back then, drive down the M4, take over a service station, drive about in a massive convoy and try and find that field! So many parties, ones that I can remember apart from the unforgettable CM are torpedo town , Stroud Warehouse, Round house London (spiral tribe), melksham Warehouse where the cops had us over! lechlade & my first 'experience' which was minchenhampton common I think February 1990. Such good times before the scene become diluted and the horrible pay parties (which we detested) won out because of that silly justice bill.
ps. Chrisby have you ever seen any blotter sheets with either strawberry's or ohms?

Castle Morton 1992 news coverage , by spirit on Nov 3, 2013 18:47:28 GMT 1, Thanks for posting those. Saw a pic of my mate on top of the spiral tribe bus and funnily enough, in the last article at the bottom of the page, they tell the same story about the guy selling acid off the bonnet of the police car that I mentioned above.

Happy times!
