DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by FΠ― on Nov 24, 2013 14:54:57 GMT 1, This is just a comment from reading, but this whole thing seems to stink of what happened in the micallef laz release 5-6 years ago. The people rinsing it killed interest in micallef and the hype cost people alot of money. I recall someone spending Β£4k on a credit card through being a bit greedy. At least laz learned from that though and kept future editions low.
These places know exactly what they are doing regarding people reselling. Banksys career has been built on auction house prices. That pillock nick walker hyped his own crap and he is still as dodgy then as now with selling prints.

From Potaplant / Payney: First offer for set 1500 quid to bmerel 3 hours later offering set on EB for 1250 quid now being offered for 1000 quid
Please people buy now while these are such a good deal.

Then he spoke about trade, his phone broken etc.. I know now the finality : He just wanted to trade a Stik with me, a llittle canvas. This guy told me taht he got 3 ( how does he do ?! ) Walk prints of Stik that he already sold on ebay, lol; Artists and gallerists must know hi: as this Manchester guy that even PW knows, and defends ! and these people are saying that they like art, they love money that's all. They should better flip on sports cars or rolex. Where is the intelligence in there ?

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by james on Nov 24, 2013 18:32:30 GMT 1, I left London after work on Wednesday hitting the road to Newcastle at rush hour. It was one of the worst weather conditions i'd ever driven in, (Removed)ial rain throughout the entire journey. Got to Newcastle at around 11pm and thought i'd just do a drive by. Ben was still in the gallery finishing up so said my hello's and off I went. I did another recce at 3.30 by which point a family (i assume) of around 5 were camping in the doorway.
I returned the next morning around 10am. A young collector from London and another from Essex in front of me, and a few further up were Forbiddenlove and Jaytown (if i'm correct) and soon there were 4 more people behind me, 2 gentlemen from Newcastle being paid by the hour to que for someone else, a musician from Whitley Bay quing for his friend in Denmark (Hello!) and a lady who had traveled from Huddersfield. Ben arrived minutes later at which point there was less than 50 in the que. He told us he would give us all tickets so we could go away and come back later, not bad I thought, i've only been in this que for about 40mins. It took him a while to ticket everyone up as he was checking ID and taking photos on his phone of credit cards/driving licences. When he got to around 5 in front of me he said there was only one more person guaranteed a print and the rest of us would have to go in a raffle. Some of the guys were on the train together so literally the position in the que at that point really meant whether you got a print or not. Anyway, Ben said he would "process" the remaining 10 exactly the same as he had done the first 40 and would "try his best"
I had ticket no 157, these were given out after the first 40, the raffle was won by 139 i think who was 41/42? in the que, i (the asian guy a the back) must have been around 44/45 so not sure of the raffle ticket numbering system as i should have been 3/4 numbers up from him.
Anyway, I got to the gallery at 6pm, huge que outside, doors opened and people started to form an orderly que for the tranasction desk, which i decided to join too. got to the front an hour and 45mins. later and (bless him) Ben asks me how comes i've got a ticket. I reminded him that it was he who gave it to me, "but you weren't in the first 40", i pointed out my ticket in the book and he says "oh you're going in the raffle" i know i say and try and beg him for a left over set, it didn't work!
In the meantime, DAL pops in and gets taken straight to the office at the back. Nice to see Martin Whatson making an appearance too.
It was clear that there were a few anxious people hanging around in the gallery, with other people telling us things like "fingers crossed for you mate" all genuine love but kind of made being in that position a little bit worse if you know what I mean.
...and why were there 14 in the raffle?
Feeling rather disappointed I kind of left the gallery without really appreciating the artwork.
to finish on a higher note, other than checking out Baltic and unit 44 as i always do when in Newcastle, the area around the lime street studios was worth visiting and a real eye opener for me, this is the first time i've visited the place and it reminded me a bit of the wick, managed to see a mural by the London police and a few other pieces by otto, mighty mo and others.
Newcastle is a gem and it was nice to see and chat to forum friends old and new.

Doesn't matter that someone called him out, as a business owner should not rise to that from a potential customer. Also, selling all dals art to "investors who are just buying blind from a recommendation and not giving dals fans a chance. just shows you what type of guy he is.

Also, he didn't actually call him a c**t, rather than the behaviour was c**tishness which is different!
But on the other hand, there is an element of comedy about the whole thing....

Wonder how much of Lazarides net revenue is actually driven by print sales and the associated aggro? I'd guess not much which is why he doesn't give a toss?

Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards Do they eclipse the people who still will? Probably not. Wonder how much of Lazarides net revenue is actually driven by print sales and the associated aggro? I'd guess not much which is why he doesn't give a toss?
They sell plenty of prints. As many of us know, the hobby starts with collecting prints and evolves into collecting originals. And collectors make more money, they spend more money. So his attitude toward print monkeys seems rather short sighted.
Laz seems interested in helping his close friends and investors. He puts on a good show to appease the rest. I guess he can afford to tell some to fukc off because he has shown strong artists for years plus his ties to Banksy.
I'm sure he will be fine . . .
Will do in the end as I know a few people who wont buy from him now. Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards Do they eclipse the people who still will? Probably not. The cost differential between prints and originals is vast, maybe enough to make it a different market entirely but unless support for the prints was guaranteed, then where the money is would wane?
I'm sure Laz reads all this when pissed up on a Chateau Latour 1961, be great for them to respond - especially if they told us all to go fuck ourselves!!!!
