I generally love Dal's work.  However, something about the image doesn't do it for me on this print.

Now not so bummed not to be in town next week.  I am stoked to get to see the show though since it is around the corner from my office, it will make for a perfect long lunch break!

I honestly don't see it as laziness at all. I see it as the most functional way to get detail without having him hand finish the print. I didn't like the Adrenaline release. I thought the quality of the print was actually terrible as were the proportions. Assassin is my favorite print by far.

I think this print looks great and folks will be pleasantly surprised with the detail when they see it in person. I think they made the right choice.

I have many Giclees from Welker and Choe that are incredible. I too prefer screen prints but I recognize the purpose of the Giclee and this was the right choice IMHO.

seems more like a time issue with this print release that is why giclee with no hand embelishment. as with previous JLG print releases, the image is typically not the strongest from the show.

Not having a go afr1ka, but genuinely curious - why did you do the recent Swoon release as a glicee if you're not a fan of them? Personally I loved the print and was glad it was very affordable. Congrats again on the art hunt. Looked like an amazing event

I get it that this work isn't everyone's cup of tea. Fair enough.

But look at that technique!! The depth that Dal achieves in the difference between the hind quarters and the front paws is down right masterful.

When you look at the koala canvas, it's terrible IMHO. Part of the reason it's terrible is because there is too much black and too much density. Also there is an immaturity in his style that shows his need to include too many un-intentional lines.

In this print, the precise opposite is true. Every line has a function and purpose. There is mastery and confidence in his line work. The areas of high density are organized and shaded with whites and Greys to make the image pop. His choices are very different and mark a maturity in his form.

Dal is at his best when he includes movement and content twists (like wheels on the feet) the develop the meaning and story of the image. I think this particular image lacks those elements so it isn't as strong as our favorite works. But this print marks an evolution in his creative mastery.

I thought dusk and dawn were great. At least they were a bit different to the previous releases, and the fact they were etchings really shows the skill the guy has.

I'm just wondering why the tea stained backgrounds all the time? I can't help thinking that his style of painting would look fantastic on a nice crisp clean white canvas.

BTW -- does anyone have the fucking Pre-Sale? I just got sent the pre-sale for Sept 6th openings, but Diana from JLG hasn't sent me the DALeast one.....

Each line fits purposefully to generate a sharp, cohesive image. In works of his like the koala or the crashed car for instance, there are many purpose-less lines, therefore dis functional.

anyone who is surprised by a slightly subpar JLG print release just does not follow the gallery or has not done their research. they have a long history of just ok releases and they are probably 70/30 giclee vs screenprint. Their prints often utilize the weakest piece from the show and their have only been a handful of print release in the last several years that had any handwork (lister and Crash are the only ones that immediately come to mind).

With all this angst over the prints it is really going to go crazy in here when the preview goes out.

This show will be totally sold out before it even opens. the print will sell out and everyone who scores any of dals work will be very lucky. I've been on the ny galleries waiting list for dals work for ages but still have no chance of getting a piece

Although I could give a s**t about the print I am impressed by his ability to progress. These works have a greater use of color, extend his standard subject matter, and are more intricate and realistic than previous works. Good job. I am most excited by his use of color. The pricing also isn't as bad as I thought it was with the most expensive piece at 7282 GBP I assume, before tax.
