DALeast ๐จ๐ณ Wuhan, China โข Street Art โข Based in Cape Town, by WOOF on Sept 2, 2014 23:57:46 GMT 1, Works are selling pretty quickly. Although, I must admit, I wasn't overwhelmed with the works (I'm likely in the minority with the various images). It is nice to see him experimenting with color though. I'm actually with you. I think the most exciting thing about his work is the depth within the lines, but most of them were lacking in that respect. I will say I think JLG might have some blame there, because the quality of those photos is pretty much poo.

DALeast ๐จ๐ณ Wuhan, China โข Street Art โข Based in Cape Town, by samfrost on Sept 3, 2014 0:29:50 GMT 1, The van and outdoor work looked awesome in person. However, not particularly blown away by the works on display at Levine. Hope to stop by the opening on Thursday and snap a few pictures.
The show will sell out, but taking a pass on this one.

DALeast ๐จ๐ณ Wuhan, China โข Street Art โข Based in Cape Town, by Harrington FAN on Sept 3, 2014 3:05:04 GMT 1, These images will certainly stack up to his other shows. The originals are bigger and will no doubt have amazing detail. Very excited to see these giant originals. Studies look less impressive than outsiders. This is next step for dal. This could be his last show most can afford. I get the sense he is going to be in huge demand globally.

DALeast ๐จ๐ณ Wuhan, China โข Street Art โข Based in Cape Town, by Poster Bob on Sept 3, 2014 8:40:43 GMT 1, Well considering that he's of Chinese origin if he takes off there his prices will go through the roof. I say the same thing about Banksy though (obviously not about his origin). I thought that some of the studies were great, the others poor. I would say that the best studies were, in approximate order: 12, 7, 13, 20, and 2. To be honest I was pretty pissed off to see that 12 had already sold by the time I saw the email. I think that in terms of his progression as an artist XI and XIII are the stand out pieces from the show although I personally would never hang XI in my home. I think VIII, XV,XIX and IX are all poor although I'll attribute my opinion on VIII to the poor quality, small picture that can't be zoomed in on properly.

DALeast ๐จ๐ณ Wuhan, China โข Street Art โข Based in Cape Town, by kojak on Sept 4, 2014 10:00:35 GMT 1, I was lucky enough to get a DALeast original canvas from this show. I will also soon be posting my framed pics of my BAST trash and royale i purchased last year. I have only been art collecting for a year and the BAST purchase got me hooked.
I have a question for you if you would not mind offering a noob some advice as this is my first original canvas i will own i am wondering what my options are for framing due to having two young kids i do not want to put it into an open frame ideally i would like to put the canvas in a frame with glass to protect the canvas is this something that you would recommend? I have been reading online that you do not normally put a canvas in a frame with a glass front.
Would really appreciate your thoughts on this dillema this picture will be in my family for years to come so i want to do my utmost to preserve it and stop my kids sticking a crayola colouring pen through the canvas.

Would really appreciate your thoughts on this dillema this picture will be in my family for years to come so i want to do my utmost to preserve it and stop my kids sticking a crayola colouring pen through the canvas. Congrats on the Daleast canvas! I would recommend using an acrylic glazing and not glass if it is going to be hung in reach of your kids - as it won't shatter and risk damaging your canvas. Float the canvas in a white or black box frame, as I personally think a simple frame compliments Daleast's work best. UV or Low-reflective acrylic glazing is recommended, but not essential. It really depends on the interplay of natural and artificial light sources in the room it will be hung.
A lot of art lovers and artists like to hang their canvases unframed - just stretched. It is a matter of personal taste. If you want to frame the canvas AND if you can find a spot for it away from direct sunlight and your kids reach, then I would definitely recommend not using glazing - as it does detract from your viewing pleasure.
I personally have canvases hung with and without glazing, with and without frames - and prefer the appearance of those without glazing but framed. The environment and fragility of the piece dictates whether I have used glazing or not.

Thanks very much for the advice is appreciated i think your right that the canvas would look better without any glazing whatsoever its purely out of preservation that i would like to do this. Based on your advice i will definately go for plexi over glass just in case the kids do knock it off the wall. The canvas i managed to pick up was the DALeast XIV which has a dark background so i think the white box would suit this well.
Another question in regards to putting the canvas in a boxed glazed frame would the front of the canvas be flush and inline with the back border or would the canvas stick out in the boxed frame so it shows the side of the canvas and has more of a visual impact ?

DALeast ๐จ๐ณ Wuhan, China โข Street Art โข Based in Cape Town, by kultur on Sept 4, 2014 10:39:44 GMT 1, DAL's canvasses usually have some nice staining on the sides of the canvas... at least mine does and most of the ones I have seen do... so I would show them.
Smartest thing would be to just find a good local respected framer to go over options when you have the piece. Right now you might not even know how thick the canvas stretcher bars are
