Buying BANKSY street work., by tonysantos2001 on Nov 14, 2013 19:49:59 GMT 1, Now before you all kick off at me for even entertaining such an idea just hear me out.
Ok, now there's a dealer that I've had dealings with on several occasions with regard to artworks and the guy has ALWAYS come through for me before, getting me prints and paintings from various artists at fantastic value for money prices.
Anyways, hadn't seen him in a while so organised to meet up with him except we met down at his warehouse/lock up. So there we are, catching up, talking s**t and all that type of think when I notice a load of boards at the back of the room so I asked to have a look at them. The boards in question were by PHLEGM that were once used to cover up an old building on the MOOR in Sheffield, anyways, he bought a few of the panels off the landlord (I was originally offered them by the landlord myself months back) anyways he said he was "taking a punt and just sittin on em" so I took some photos and all that.
ANYWAYS
In the back with the phlegm pieces were about three other bits of board and and various other stuff and straight away I recognised em, yeah, they were BANKSY street pieces! Now, I was sceptical as f**k, you only need to check out Ebay for all the fakes, so asked him about them. Without going into too much details TWO of the pieces he had, well they had some pictures stuck to the back of them in an envelope, these pictures showed the pieces "in situ" as they were back in Bristol (these were OLD pieces) also, for one of the pieces he had one of the many old Banksy books (Think it was "Home Sweet Home") and there was the piece, clear as day!
Now, I asked the obvious questions about Pest Control/C.O.A. and basically told me that he was told to "Get f**ked" (his words, not mine) but said I was more than welcome to make an offer on them, if not he was either gonna stick them on Ebay or sell on to another dealer.
So my questions are this. (And thanks for sticking with me)
The pieces were *A traffic bollard, LARGE banksy tag (Could be easily faked) *A LARGE Banksy tag on chipboard (This had the most photo documentation) *A large-ish panel of safety glass that had been removed from the window frame, the window on the exterior had been painted red and there was two coppers running away from the leopard that had been used in other pieces, quite a bit of paint had flaked and the tag (in white) was slightly scuffed (probably from removal)*
What with having lack of C.O.A. the pieces *seemed* to have a lot of historical evidence (Pictures in situ, published in books and what-not) so which piece, if any, would you deem as original considering the historical nature of the evidence?!
Also, what would you even PAY for these?! I was told to get back to him next week with an offer! Like I said, he's come up with the goods before but I'm always wary of buying street pieces!
Thanks guys!
*The piece in question can be seen in "Home Sweet Home" on page page 38, looks a bit different but I guess that could be the age/deterioration of the piece.

Buying BANKSY street work., by kbfrombk on Nov 14, 2013 19:57:16 GMT 1, Sounds fun! I'm sure he wouldn't be the first dealer to pick up and attempt passing off fake street stuff with 'tons of photo evidence'. I'd say you're probably being too vague to expect a stable answer from any of the vets here; if you got photos I'd figure one these forumites to share them with for further info.

I just wanted a rough idea, then I can go make an offer on condition that I get to take some pics and let "My People" look over them Then, if everything *seems* to be above board then we'll have a deal at the agreed price!

I personally would not be interested because at the back of my mind, every time I looked, that little bastard that lives there would be shouting 'FAKE' at me.

Buying BANKSY street work., by johnnyh on Nov 15, 2013 12:46:29 GMT 1, Must say not a great lover of buying or supporting the removal of street pieces...that being said sounds like long gone from the street. One issue with street pieces is that they seem quite cumbersome for the average home (whatever that is). First key question is are they real. If you believe so and you like them and you can agree the right price. You do not have a street piece being on your wall issue then you may well wanna buy them. Sure if you have them you will love em as they are what they are but would suggest ŷou buy them if that's what your gonna do on the basis that you will not want to sell them. As that will likely be a pain in the arse

Buying BANKSY street work., by Happy Shopper on Nov 15, 2013 13:47:18 GMT 1, Without COA it's tricky... but if they're in a Banksy book, then to me that's as good as a COA. If it's beyond doubt that the piece in the book is the piece available, then it's authenticity is right there!
Obviously it's not as valuable as a real banksy "artwork", but could still be a nice thing to own.

Buying BANKSY street work., by tonysantos2001 on Nov 16, 2013 3:54:10 GMT 1, Well I've decided that I'm gonna make an offer tomorrow (today Saturday!) on the police piece! From what I saw and what I saw in the book it's DEFO legit! That Steve Wright fella seems to know has stuff and has a good back history of pieces!
This isn't a piece that I've ever seen offered up before so y'know what?! Think I'm gonna take a punt!
Just want to say though that I wouldn't buy a NEWER street piece, I just feel that these pieces are that old that they may of ended up lost to there environment after ten plus years!
Those of you that took the time cheers for your input, if I get lucky I'll be sure to post pics and that to share!

For what it's worth I wouldn't bother unless u really like the image. If you decide to seek down the line they will be v hard to shift because if everything u r currently going thru. Also the images mainly sound like tags which is certainly easier to fake than not. Like has been said before, regard them as fakes and go from there.

Say what you like, your actively encouraging the removal of street pieces. This bullshit about being an old piece is rubbish, your just cashing in (or hoping too!) on works the artists wanted on the street!
urbanartassociation.com/thread/108220/phlegm-moor-pieces-sale
What you planning next? Will we see an ethical quandary thread relating to a Stik piece soon?

Buying BANKSY street work., by tonysantos2001 on Nov 16, 2013 15:20:11 GMT 1, Pathetic!
Not gonna lower myself in to a public slanging match with you Jaygo. If you are NOT him then why the antagonising messages and also the bigging up of ...?!
We made an agreement with ... not to talk about each other and yet his bullying and harassment continued! Yet, this so called "bad boy" of art felt the need to send the Police round. Funny thing was though when the Police were shown the messages from ... they laughed, they also agreed with what I and others have said saying he was a "Glorified Tracer" I suggest that you, like ….. CEASE with your stalkery behaviour and harassment! He seems to of been a good guy and stuck to his word but the agreement also covered his mates as well, all you are doing is making life difficult for him. My only problem with ... was having an opinion on his work, something which I believe, well if you're going to be ANY sort of creative you should expect that you'll get some form of critique on your work. I/we've said NOTHING more about his pieces, and will continue to abide to the agreement. Thing is, when Muppets come along and make threats (such as THIS!) "yeay do what you want buba i got your address in sheffield bro. Watch out for a nice xmas surprise." well that's not really very nice behaviour is it?! And taking snide, cheap shots is just pathetic!
Tartarus, take a little time to research and READ PROPERLY!!! Clearly states that the building AND the art were being demolished! Man, seems like some people only see what they WANT to read! So let me get this straight, if it's a choice between something being destroyed forever and saved you would rather it be destroyed?! Well everyone is entitled to there opinion I guess?!
Pathetic!

Keep kidding yourself dude, this goes totally against what the scene is about, and is NOT what the artists wanted for their work.
I assume you'll be ok to buy the Know Hope piece that was a tribute to his dead mate? It was also taken, maybe for profit from the likes of yourself, but it gutted the artist, which is totally understandable. I guess in ten years, it will be fine for you to buy it right? You just keep supporting your favourite artists dude, I'm sure they appreciate it!!
Yep everyone and their opinion.

And some people expect others to believe what they write!

Buying BANKSY street work., by tartarus on Nov 16, 2013 16:52:52 GMT 1, if you don't want to hear it, why come here asking for opinions?
"Also, what would you even PAY for these?! I was told to get back to him next week with an offer! Like I said, he's come up with the goods before but I'm always wary of buying street pieces!"
And yet you seem to do an awful lot of it!

Buying BANKSY street work., by Deleted on Nov 16, 2013 17:07:44 GMT 1, Look, the guy can sell whatever he likes.
I'm just annoyed at the charade of getting it from "a friend" and the multiple identities. Just run a proper sales thread and not this fishing for private offers....
Again, I personally like Jon/Tony but find it hard to feel bad about him saying he gets a beating on here, when he asks for it with these crazy posts...

Buying BANKSY street work., by tonysantos2001 on Nov 16, 2013 17:47:57 GMT 1, It's ok guys, JAYGO know exactly who I am and my mate is. Thing is that JAYGO sent an e-mail to my mate basically outing himself as JPS so you now all know. Thing is that he has made a thinly veiled threat against me and John (Bubba) and quite a few of you have read it on here so if anything SHOULD happen, well I think I've said all that needs to be said. Just to say by the way that anything that I've said here has been based on FACT, at NO point have I made any slanderous/libellous comments about anybody, simply presented facts.
I contacted libellous requesting that this thread be removed as well. If any OTHER mods are reading if you could please erase.
Hopefully neither myself or John will hear anything else from this guy and we can all just carry on with the rest of our lives.
