So, apparently it was used in a protest in LA in August before being shown in New York in October!

Must have HShop and if you look at that piece def the same and there is no way those workers designed and got there own piece done. Great for them also that he carried the campaign to New York what is surprising is that no one connected the dots. How did you come across it if I may ask?

I'd assume he made this sculpture a good while ago... maybe with New York in mind, or maybe just as a random piece of art.
It would have taken a while to build, so I doubt he made it specifically for this protest in LA either (assuming it wasn't planned far in advance).
If it was in his studio (Rumours are that he's based in LA), he probably just thought he'd take it down there and help with PR... or friends in the protest movement asked him to help.
