Retna • Braddock Tiles, by Deleted on Feb 7, 2018 10:26:37 GMT 1, This thread has been hijacked by someones dislike for RETNA's lifestyle and morals. Maybe create your own thread disparaging his character. Or perhaps a thread on morally corrupt artists making great art. RETNA may be a total ass. But the seller is not flipping an overpriced print as has been implied. The print is worth what people are willing to pay.....and like it or not people have been paying north of $1K for this print. The seller should be allowed to list it without having people come sh*t on his thread. "nothing worse in my opinion than to buy an artwork and have it in your house to realise that the artist is a real d*ck few month after." Really?!?! What about cancer, famine, terrorism. That statement is a bit melodramatic in my opinion. People spending thousands on art probably know about the artist ahead of time, they don't need a lesson on the artist's character or a lecture on morality. Guess what, MICHELANGELO was a complete d*ckhead. CARAVAGGIO was a murderer. PICASSO was a misogynist. People still buy their art...museums still display their work. Good luck with the sale. If you haven't seen the print in person it really is quite beautiful. "by someones" ? - You mean someone (me) or a group of someone?
If someone-me, then I think it is important to say it so that people knows the guy's past history. Are you really sure that people buying RETNA - aside his best clients, LA lawyers - really know about the character, I don't think so? And really, don't you think it is better for any potential buyers to get the information here, prior to purchase, and not in his/her home during a friends party ("Oh, I know this artist, he broke a gallery into pieces, hit his wife and even posted picture of his dick and him leaking anus on IG?").
There is already a long thread about Retna's past, you are right, I'll just say he is a duck and post a link to thread. As for flipping, it was not appropriate considering that law of market is king and is the rule (we clearly have different opinion how what art should be). Sure, if someone is ready to spend 1K+ on a $40 inkjet prints, let it buy it. I accept this and shall not comment on prices and market value and hijack sale thread by stating cost price, I shall let buyers do their homework.
Too "melodramatic"... compared to some other more important problems (such as cancer, famine, terrorism), let me correct then - "In regards of fine art collection, buying an artwork and having it in my house to realise that the artist is a real d*ck few month after is something I personally dislike."
Yep, I know, Picasso was a mysognist, etc. and museums still display their work without background... I think it is wrong. But then I often hear the all world of fine art is an unregulated market (if not the most unregulated) and presumably the fourth or fifth largest criminal activity, sure showing/trading immoral is the last of their concern. I quote from a news article a sentiment I may share - "There appears to be little need or public outcry to fix the system. [...] And, perhaps, the culture itself, surrendering art to drug lords, oligarchs, money launderers and international vulgarians, and forcing the rest of us to admire what we might, given more rational values, disdain."
As for shitting on his thread and being a boring moral lecturer. Just like Choe and RETNA, I also have that attitude and I am fine with that. In fact, I am even considering posting picture of dicks and bitches everyone someone tells me I speak shit because it is too cool and great for my brandable life. As you said, anyone spending $1k+ buying Choe or Retna should be used with that and possible enjoying it
All this to say: "I can rap gangsta n' shiznit on peoplez thread n' I be fine wit dat cuz I don't rape hoes nor beat dem biatcheznor wrap mah dick wit scrilla nor post ass-leakin on IG. If not fine wit that, break me off a gangbangin' finger-lickin' dirty talk. If not fine wit' dat, give me some dirty rap. Have a gangbangin' free bump thug". (pretty funny these talking gangsta-shit tools)

Retna • Braddock Tiles, by Season of Mist on Feb 7, 2018 10:48:03 GMT 1, Look, I know the PC police is almighty these days.
But if you're looking for morally stable artists - you wouldn't be listening to a lot of music, watching a lot of movies nor looking at a lot of art. And I work with artist - graphic and musical, for 25 years. I speak from experience. Morality and art are two different things.
If you are taking the moral high ground when it comes to art... That's not the right place. The exemple are countless and from each millenia. The PC police is the new inquisition.
That being said, I still think Retna is sh*t. But that's speaking from a personal taste point of view. Not a moral high ground.

Agree, without deviant and immoral person, they won't be any art. I personally enjoy stuff that you can call deviant (exploitation; giallo; underground comics; etc.) and have a passion for immoral stuff in cinema/art.
So to speak the truth, I don't give a fuck about immorality in art. I was just stating real facts about RETNA for any potential buyers so that they are aware of the guy. But what bother me much here is seeing a $45 giclée print released for charity sold for $1424. But I am told that's the way things work here.
So yeah, I agree with you, not the right place for me. Bye !
